Credit varies from school to school and state to state, but is looked at seriously by most colleges, even if no credit is given. It can be simple can collections, bake sales, helping at nursing homes, working with political campaigns, etc. Try to get one hundred hours of service, and keep an accurate list. Less is fine if it is really helpful like Katrina projects, church programs (meals on wheels, etc).
If you find one area you like stick with it! good luck!
