No it is not damaging as long as you do not get too many chemical services, I would tell your hairdresser to just use the largest rods that will fit in your hair, I have found that either coloring or perming your hair is fine, as long as you do not do it all that often and get frequent trims inbetween.

Most perms, including body perms, use chemicals. Chemicals will damage hair. The amount of damage depends on your hair. If it is already dry, colored, etc., then the damage will be worse. Fine hair may be proned to more damage, as well, but again, it depends on your hair.
There is a "chemical free" type of body perm available. I ran into it at the Ritz-Carlton spa, but is available at other high-end places. The drawback? It was almost $500.
Talk with a color/perm specialist. She can evaluate your hair type and make recommendations.

You could try a perm but remmember fine thin hair breaks easier and with a perm it can really break.I have finr hair and I myself would love a perm but I know what it will do and I would never do it myself.Your hair will be damaged for sure. Why not try some mouse and a curling iron .The mouse and some hair spray together should make the curl last. You can try the perm but be carefull not to overdo it or you will end up with nothing but frizz

Relaxing and perming hair causes damage. However, you have to go to an expert to get better results. Do not do it yourself at home.

let a stylist look at it and see if your hair is in good enough condition for one
