It's not a "syndrome". It's a virus. It spreads like any other virus, although it's not as easy to catch as other viruses, like the common cold or flu. It's very hard to catch compared to cold and flu.

You get over it, just like any virus, but it takes a long time.

I had mono once. It was highly contagious - my girlfriend got it too... took her 3 months to get over it. Took me less than 3 weeks. I personally didn't find it to be dangerous - but I live a fairly healthy lifestyle. I also was a college student at the time, and had access to free healthcare at the school clinic.

I'd recommend doing a wiki search for mono and seeing what the worldwide web says about it as far as danger, but I don't think it's likely to kill her or you.

I had mono once too from drinking from the wrong soda cup at work. It gave me the worst Strep throat of my life, 103 temp. and fatigue that lasted 3 wks+. My advice stay away awhile it is mostly a "kissing disease", but I didnt kiss the girl I got it off of, i picked the wrong cup up out of 5. She'll be fine, just in pain awhile till the antibiotics start working...send her a get well card..

Here is a clear discussion on this subject. She should be okay but needs to follow medical advice.
