I have 4 Sisters and I'm the only son and live nearly 300 miles from my Mother. She is 77 and befriends troubled people and drug addicts. Some have even taught her how to shoot her pain medications like Heroine into her veins. Now she is selling her (Dilaudid, Xanax and Morphine Patches) meds and I'm worried she may eventually get assaulted, robbed or even murdered.

I've confronted her before about her drug use that is supposed to be for pain, but, she is hard-headed and very difficult. I am a Disabled Veteran with a bad heart and M.S., and a Spinal Cord injury, and it causes me a lot of stress over this, but, I'm not sure what to do.

I know my Mother could be busted by the Law, and she could even be committed under an intervention, but, then she plays the Suicide Card. I feel trapped and damned if I do something and damned if I don't.

I could really use and appreciate some thoughtful feedback on this! Has anyone out there been in this position before? HELP!

You can call Adult Protective Services in the city/town/county where your mother lives. It can be an anonymous report if you wish. However, if your mom is guilty of drug dealing she'll face consequences. At her age, I have no idea. However, given how you are disabled and your mom is elderly, I'm thinking you could qualify for free legal help in your state. Look this up on the internet. You must be disabled or under the poverty level to qualify. So, you hire a lawyer for free, ask him/her for help, and call APS to intervene with your mom. They will send out a social worker to check out the situation if they suspect abuse, neglect, or exploitation. In your mom's case this sounds like exploitation/abuse, however, your mom would have to prove that she is unaware of the consequences of her actions. Again, a lawyer can help you. I'd also let a sister or two know, see what they say because they deserve to know even if they don't want to do anything about it.

Good luck and remember, get people to help you. Don't go at it alone or you will feel overwhelmed.

Good luck.

Call her Dr. and tell him what she is doing with her meds. He needs to stop writing prescriptions for them. The family needs to have an intervention with your mother. The suicide thing is just a ploy that she knows will work. She needs to go to rehab.
I suspect that she may have some mental problems, also.

As said before. Talk to your mom's doctor. he needs to know that she is selling her perscriptions. That way he can stop writing any for her. Get your mom into rehab as soon as possible. Get the people out of her house also. Talk to your sisters and inform them of the situation. Sit down and talk to your mom. If she plays the suicide card again, just keep talking. Do what you think is best for her since she isn't doing it herself.

I suggest you and your siblings make an appointment with your mothers doctor and push him to get her detoxed. If you can get her detoxed then move her to another area far away from all those leaches and get her involved in some activities that will help her fill her time with meaning.

at that age I'm sure what she's doing makes her feel good. And at an age where she could kill over any minute, why not make the most of the last of your life?
