True people in general just don't like to take responsibility for their actions and "Blaming" the cop who arrested them is the easy way out. The can go back to their friends and tell them later how wrong the cops were and fill them with their side of the story no mater how false or over embellished it is. Then their friends will only have one side of the story, and that side most likely not the true or complete truth without ever receiving the officers side.
Now Officers not only have the person the arrested hating them, but all that persons friends and family to. Then to make matters worse, those friends and family will be telling the same story from a third party prospective fabricated from lies and half truths. Now half the community hates the Officer.
On a good note however, I had one the other morning kinda take responsibilty. He did not balme me for taking him to jail, but he still did not fully take responsibilty for himself and blamed his girlfriend for making him so mad that he acted a fool.
Called to a disturbance where the boyfriend was on the girlfriends front porch screaming at he inside the house and causing a scene.
My backup and I arrive and I take him to the side while my backup talks with the girl. Girl wants a Criminal Trespass Warning isued to him so that he can not come back on the property. I advised the guy of the CTW and he left the property still highly upset. The he returns to the street in front of the location while we were still there anouncing that the street is public and not part of her property and so he can stay there all he wants.
Knowing that now he is going to yell at her from the street and that when we leave he will probably just come back on the property I started looking for reasons to take him to jail,
Thats when I observed that the bicycle he was on was unregistered with the city which is against City Codes. I advised the guy that yes he was correct, and that the street is public, but that he was in violation of city code and placed himunder arrest.
While at the jail he asked what would have happened had the bicycle been registered. I told him he would have gone to jail for not having a headlamp on the bicycle and since it was still dark out, that was also against city code and would have been arrested. Then he asked about if had not been on a bicycle. I explained he would have gone to jail for walking on the wrong side of the road.
At this point he backed off and stated that he had learned something today. "When the police tell you to leave, just leave." It does no good to argue the law on small points, when the police enforce the law everyday.

You make a point that is valid only some of the time. Some police officers are fair minded people. I've met a few good cops. But others are just as mean and low-down as the people they arrest. And even when a cop isn't mean and low-down, he often has prejudices about who he should arrest for what in which situations. A big part of that prejudice is political pressure not to lean on favored minorities. The cop wants to keep his job, just like anybody else does, and keeping the job sometimes means doing the job wrong.

I think that there are a lot of people in our society that aren't really mature enough to understand what it means to be an adult. It is these people who can't take responsibility for their actions. We all know that there are bad cops who go out looking for trouble, but that is not most cops. I also think that some people try to make it about the cop to get off for what they have done. Once again, immaturity.

Well most cops I have seen have been the steriotypical pig-cop, who enjoys bulling people but once there is a real law breaker they tend to look the other way. They dont want to get involved in somthing serious and so more serious crimes are commited while people get in trouble for stupid traffic violations and sh.t.
For example, speeding down the high way, doing 65 in a 55 zone the cop is more likely to pull me over than the guy in the next lane doing 85.

Lt. Dan I think you already hit the nail on the head. Responsibility! It is basic human nature to not want to take blame for something wrong that one has done. So when one gets into trouble with the law it isnt thier fault but it is the Cops. Sorry Dude, it is one of those facts of life. Dont take it personal.

Degenerates blame cops because they have never been taught that the right thing to do is take responsibility for their own actions. Family members of the idiot who committed the crime are usually just as bad. "Oh my poor baby!" And crap like that. What it boils down to is this. If you can not follow the rules of society, then, you need to be taken out of that society until you learn that you have to follow the rules. If you can't follow the rules, then you are considered a menace to the public. And you will be treated as such. I have no sympathy for criminal idiots.

I always wondered the same thing, i currently am trying to pursue my career in law enforcement and i get so many comments like "oh ok you wunna join the pigs" and "whatever ruin the world some more" and many more foolish statements... i think it rediculous, people dont understand what police officers do, and how they risk their life for the greater good of the "city". I dont think it will ever end.. it was those first few corrupt cops who ever started the whole pig issues.. and they will forever remain. Sad, but, really,, not much anyone can do but try and teach people one at a time. Best of luck Lieutenant. = )

Making generalizations; if one cop does something inappropriate then all cops are corrupt. There is also the lack of maturity, not accepting that they don't get to be a special exception to the rules like mommy would do for them..

In this day and age, we live in the era of 'I'm not responsible'. So many will not accept responsibility for their actions, they always have to find someone or something to blame. Besides, with the current legal system, if they do that they may get a huge payout from the courts.
