An intriguing question with many answers, please consider the following opinions

1. boys tend to falter at an early age until they see others who show romantic inclinations getting some and decide that is a good idea to be romantic

2. young girls seek romantic notions of love and are often swayed by boys who want sex and not romance, this can either crush a woman or make her hate men

3. Men / Women who are confident with their ability and sexuality have no problem being romantic or being romanced

4. Men / Women who are less confident will dip their toes into the Sea of Love every now and then and hope they do not drown

5. More Men wish they could express themselves better without being considered wimps or girly

6. More Women wish they could express themselves better without feeling desperate or needy

I know Im guilty of being a bit sexist in romance. although i do go halves on most things with my bf i do quietly believe in the gent offering to pay. of course, when you are both students this becomes a bit impossible and very unfair lol.
i also agree with below- i am terrible for complacency in the area of romance, yet i go mad if my bf doesnt make an effort. Dont worry, im working on this issue lol :)

what species ? birds or humans ?
if you mean humans:
that depends on culture and education.
you can not say, that all male and or female on this planet are the same. There aare very shy or very dominant people in each sex.
Some man prefer to be dominant, others love the get tight up by a female domina....you know. sadomaso and such.

reagring to romance, thats the same. all the borad range on both sides.

I can't speak for all the women in our species, but at least in the US I think that women tend to feel romance is something the man should do and it drives me nuts. I love doing special things for the man I'm dating, it's fun. And I really think men appreciate it. They're so used to being expected to "be romantic" that they're suprised when we take the initiative to spoil them for a chance. I wish more women would try this, it's fun, and your relationship can really benefit from it. Besides, ladies, if you want your man to pamper you a bit, why not show him how to do it?

Absolutely. Women, for the most part, feel like it's solely the man's responsibility to bring romance to the relationship. She will typically do very little in that regard, but if he does the same, she will be very angry with him. I know there are exceptions, so don't take it personally if you're a woman and not like this. But there are so many more who are.

Everyone sees things from their own perspective, and your perspective takes into account your gender. If you're not a teeny tiny little bit sexist then you're probably repressing some part of your libido or world view - or you're pretending? - and I'm sure this applies to both men and women.

No. Romance has always had a feminine quality to it. Women are traditionally more open than men. Why do you think there is more homophobia in men than women? We have a tough time dropping our guard but romance is mutually beneficial when approached slowly.

Yes, but that is fine, because when I do something romantic for my gf I get special 'treats' in return.

You see, women are always harping on about equality, but in reality you can't handle it, you need the man to be a man and that means that things like romance have to work one way.

I think women are definitely sexier. Of course, I may be biest, but their bodies are inarguably more aesthetic than guys, no matter how great a shape we're in. Also, they are more romantically inclined. It's a product of the society we live in. Women have more freedom to be in touch with all their feelings. Guys on the other hand are encouraged not to be emotional. So I guess my answer to your questions is: YES. ;)
