Hi,

I am planning a trip to drive from NYC to Montreal and back to NYC.

I hold a UK (english) passport.

Can I cross the US/Canda border and recross and get the visas? or do i need to get a special visa?

Due to a recent change in the laws everyone including US citizens and all other nationalities will need a passport to cross into Canada and back into the States. I don't believe that you will need a Visa but to be sure contact the Canadian Border Control or maybe a travel agent can answer your question.I hope you know some french when you go to Quebec, as when I went there it was difficult to get by without knowing any french. I had to remember my school french. I would advise taking a french /english dictionary if you go.

The USA has a visa waiver scheme with UK Citizens (you can LEGALLY stay in the US for 90 days) . Not sure if visa are needed for Canada, I don't think so.

You can cross the border with a UK passport you may have to go into the office when crossing the border and give further proof so it may take you 30 mins or more longer.
