Hi,
I have 3 neighbor dogs (Chihuahuas). There are two on one side and
one on the other side of my house. THEY BARK INCESSANTLY. My wife
and I are ready to short circuit. Called the SPCA and they gave me a
whole list of things to do (keep a log-which they sent me, etc., etc.)
I am willing to do this but it just seems too time consuming and
unjust for that matter. It's very irritating how people can be so
inconsiderate...I can't believe they don't hear their own dogs
barking! Anyway, I've reached the breaking point and am willing to do
whatever I need to do to stop it (fill out log, mail it in, etc.,
etc.) What I would like to know is if anyone has had this problem and
if they have found some creative ways to deal with it (hire
someone...i.e. subpoena deliverer? or someone like this) to go talk to
the people. I've also looked into the no bark devices that you can
place in your yard...not sure if these will work. Any solutions out
there? Thanks for your help!! Really apprecaite it!

Be sure to check with the local police department for disturbing the peace ordinances.

I know what you mean though. I have five large dogs and several fosters. When they bark I get off my *** and see why and get them in. My neighborsa have a few dogs but one is one of those stupid horrible weiner dogs. and he will stand out there and bark at their door for hours. If it weren't for my other neighbors I would let mine bark for hours too but I don't want them to bother the other neighbors.

Barking dogs can drive you mad! As a dog owner, I can honestly say that although I love my dogs, I have had moments of sheer rage at other dog owners' ignorance and apathy towards how their dog's behavior affects other people and other dogs. It's a real shame.

As to the barking: I am an advocate of dealing with your neighbors face-to-face, at least at first. Solving a problem using the least restrictive alternative is ideal, although I understand that in many cases, it's just not possible.

It may be as simple as knocking on their door and introducing yourselves. Let them know--calmly--that the reason you are visiting is that you would like to talk as neighbors about the amount of time that the dogs spend barking. Approaching it reasonably, by recognizing that all dogs bark once in a while, and that some barking some times is not necessarily bad, but that the non-stop barking is very bothersome. Explain the reasons why it is disturbing you--you may not have a strong arguement, for example, if you are gone all day and only listen to the dogs between 5 and 8 pm.

Again, I understand fully that this may or may not be well-received; I have had both good and bad experiences while talking to neighbors about bothersome pets. I try not to be accusatory or judgmental, but when that conversation fails, I feel perfectly justified calling the police each and every time the dog barks for more than 30 minutes continuously. Use your police department, it's a part of why they exist, to help manage conflicts that people just can't work out amongst themselves. Believe me, the police will get tired of visiting your neighbor's homes and will either issue citations or utilize your local animal control or SPCA to do what needs to be done.

I feel your pain--good luck to you!!

You got 3 choices: 1. Don't say or do nothing and let these dog's drive you crazy and for as long as you live there will not get good rest or peacefully living. Hoping that sooner or later you will get use to it and the barking will drown out. 2. Say something to your landlord and maybe he will move them somewhere else at night. 3. Move and find a place with no dogs around and have a peace of mind which leads to a healthy emotional life!

The police noise complaint department is your best chance of getting something done quickly. If you don't want you neighbors to know it was you, just tell the police to keep your name confidental. Make sure you call between the desginated hours of when the neighbors are involation of the noise ordinance. If they get called out the first time they will mostly likely get a verbal warning, second time equals a written warning, and third time equals a fine. They are not cheap either. They can start off from $250-1000 dollars. Plus, the police can actually call animal control and have the dogs taken away if you call enough times. I hate it when neighbors think they are the only ones who live in a NEIGHBORHOOD!! I hope this helps and good luck!

As a dog owner and dog lover you may be surprised at my answer
which is very simply to take your neighbors to court.
Dogs who bark incessantly are,in the main, dogs that receive insufficient exercise and from your description are kept outside so as to require little attention from their owners. And they are a nuisance and intolerable.
I have a large retriever and we live in a group of small houses which are all very close to eachother..occasionally he will bark but usually is asleep having had a long run in the fields and that, I daresay, is what these dogs need.
Chihuahuas are notoriously yappy creatures.
You will get no change out of the owners unless you make a stand. If you don't the problem will just go on.

Barking dogs are the biggest nuisance that people cannot control. Authorities don't like to spend time on this but it does depend on where you live, some cities have strict laws where they will eventually fine the owner. However, nothing is worse than your neighbors hating you.
Did you know that neighbors are the number 1 cause of people wanting to move, and it is also the number 1 reason why people may want a bigger house or closer to work and stay, because they love their neighbors.
I would say ,,,,,Just Move.....This is a miserable uphill battle for you, with no good ending in sight.

There are so many dogs on our block, including our 3 that when one starts to bark they all go! I know with my dogs after we put in our doggie door their barking has droped by 90%. How ever there always seems to be some thing for them to bark after. We recently put a few coins in a small tin, which makes quite a bit of noise, and we shake it and say, "NO BARK". So far it has worked and they do bark less, until a C-A-T or another D-O-G walks into our yard.

Hope this helps!

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/crAOY

If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.

It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

COME ON FOLKS! THIS IS SIMPLE! ......USE AN AIRHORN! The kind you get at wallie world works just fine, look in the boating department for a simple little aircanister device with the horn on it. Every time the dogs bark, use the airhorn! Not only will it stop the barking it will definitely get you neighbors attention to the problem. If you have to listen to barking they will have to listen to the horn...IF/When they try to take you to court you have the log of barking and other neighbor complaints to substantiate your side.
