Its one of the most amazing places to visit in the whole world, I was born in thailand and lived in phuket until i moved here about 7 years ago when i was 8. We go twice a year to visit family.
Its most definitly safe. Bombings very very rarely happen and muggings only happen if you have you stuff on display or are just careless. There is so much to do and to miss an opportunity to visit such an amazing place because of things that "might" happen would be silly.
Trust me i have never experienced anything horrible in all the years i lived there and for the times ive visited. Its an amazing place, you shuld definitly go!!!!

Phuket is one of the most amazing places I've been to. Went for 1st time last year & felt perfectly safe even walking out on my own. My partner's been going for years and apart from being caught up in the Tsunami, which was rather unfortunate!!, he's never had a problem. Going back again in April Cant wait!!

I was inPhuket, Thailand August 2006 with my wife, our first visit to this country. I was apprehensive at first, but after arriving and meeting the thai people my mind was set at rest. They are the most kind and generous people i have ever met. Phuket I would say is the most exciting and viberant island of Thailand and we are now planning a second visit in 2007, along with Chiang Mai and Bangkok, this capital must not be missed on your itinery to this safe and wonderful country. My wife and I stayed for 3 days and our only regret was we wished it could have been longer. This year 2007 we are staying for 7days, there is so much to see and learn about this beautiful country, our only regret is the distance to get there, wish it was closer. 2006 we stayed in Phuket for 2weeks and 3 days in Bangkok. This time we are staying for 7 days in Bangkok and 2 weeks Chiang Mai and two weeks Phuket, heaven awaits so fab

Safe from what? There is always a chance of a tsunami but there is at Bondi Beach too. Same goes for bombings. Just be careful of muggings and more so pick pockets. If you go to the beach, dont take cameras or wallets unless you have someone to hang on to them. If you go to a nightclub, dont leave anything in your pockets, the lady boys dance up with you and rub their hands all over you, next thing you know, everything in your pockets will be gone

Yes, Phuket is safe.
Just stay away from three southern most provinces where there are bombs everyday.
I think sooner there will be no one or no place left for them to bombs and they'll stop themselves.

It's safe but there are much less developed (and in my opinion) nicer places to visit in Thailand.
