I'd question any religion that had a chosen people, specified clothing, hair styles, or anything else that is contrary to the rest of the natural order, i.e non-meat eating for a omnivore, etc.

Before I was in an extensive Bible Study I had the same questions.
What you need to do is start with the beginning of time and man's rejection of God. God chose all people in the beginning and then he kept having to destroy those who did not believe. Here is the deal- he found this totally faithful guy Abraham one day and said I will make a nation out of you. You have not rejected me as the others have. SO that is how the Israelite's/Jewish people became the chosen ones.
He chose them to be examples of his word. So then he brings down Christ and the Jews totally reject him. They are so caught up in their own religious rules and how great they are to be chosen that they miss the whole picture. Which- BTW is prophesied throughout the whole BIBLE. So then chooses Paul to take the word to the gentiles. Who (not caught up in their own practice) believe in the New Testament.
So now here we all are creating religion again instead of just worshiping God and Jesus together and so what happens next.
Who knows. It is not man made it was made due to the errors of man.

Chosen by God for special responsibilities, not special privledges. Judaism was the first monotheistic religion, and highly influenced the other major monotheistic religions, Christianity and Islam.
The major responsibility is "Tikum Olum", which is perfecting the world under God's rule". This has/is being accomplished in many ways: Belief in only one God, via Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Social Justice: An unusually large percentage of Nobel Peace Prize winners have been Jewish. Whether it be Bosnia, Ethiopia, or Darfur, Jews have been the first to ask for aid. Israel even sent entertainers to perform for the children in war-torn Bosnia. Ever heard of the "golden rule"? "Do onto others as you would have them do onto you." This originated in Judaism. So did the idea of having one day off per week-- If you do not think this is a big deal, remember that as little as about 100 years ago, Andrew Carnige (sp?) still had people work 7 days per week in his factories.
With regard to your question about Judaism being human made-- well, you're probably right. There is no proof, just like all other religions. For example, with Judaism, you could ask that if Moses came down from Mt. Sinai with the 10 commandments, who is to say that Moses did not just write them himself (since nobody was there to witness it)? With Christianity you could ask why, when Jesus came back from the dead, he revealed himself to less than a handful of people? With Islam, you could ask a similar question of why God revealed Himself to Muhammed and therefore negated everything He declared before. If God really does know everything, that would make everything God said before (to other prophets) worthless. Therefore, to believe in Islam you might be saying that God is a liar.

Perhaps you need "hooked on phonics". It said the jews were the chosen people. That means that they were chosen for the nationality of Jesus. There is nothing misinterpreted in the bible, it's simply not understood by the person reading it. If you open your heart and accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savoir, GOD will help you understand the bible more. Thank you and GOD bless.

I think you're misreading the word "chosen."
It doesn't mean "chosen" as in "better than everybody else."
It means "chosen" as in "charged with a unique responsibility."
That responsibility, of course, is worshipping God and leading a life pleasing to Him.
This responsibility extends to Christianity too, since Christianity is really fulfilled Judaism when we think about it.

The bible does not state that jews are god's chosen people. That verse is misinterpreted. god does not choose one group of people over the rest. If that is the case i will gladly claim atheism, paganism as my religion.

God chose the Jews because the Jews chose God first. It is only AFTER the Jews accept the Covenants....sight unseen...that God promises to protect them always.
