if your dog is about to give birth? My dog is walking around sniffing more, and licking herself alot, and crying more (which I didn't think was possible). There has been no sign of her losing her mucus plug, and her temp is normal. So is it getting close to due time?

she will also start to 'nest" if she's going to give birth. You may not have even noticed that she lost her mucus plug, and sometimes temp won't tell you either. just make sure she's got a comfy place to rest and give her lots of water.

My St. Bernard started doing this 4 days before she gave birth, so I'd keep a close eye out, she is going into early stages of labor, but a sure sign that she will give birth in 24 hours is, she'll make a nest, possibly burry her food, and she'll get really restless, like pacing back and forth sitting down, then standing right back up, accesive sleeping, that sort of thing. Normally she'll give birth to 1 pup an hour.

Good Luck!

My first litter was born the 9th.
the sign your dog is ready to give birth is panting this could go on for an hour to 36 hrs. my dog did it for 24 hrs. then they will begin to have contractions witch there is no mistaking a contraction when this starts to happen you should see your first pup with in the hour.
Dogs temp drops to 98.6 when they start labor

I raise English bulldogs and as most of you know, they normally can't have them naturally. We have to watch very close and make sure we know when they are in labor. You can do what they call a digital where you put on a rubber glove with KY and insert two fingers as far as you can go and when you pull them out, if there is any greenish, brownish, or redish color, then she is in labor. I know it sounds kind of gross, but this is the same way your vet would check to see. It is the same as you would check a human. Hope this helps.

Is she still interested in food? On the norm, females that are ready to welp will loose interest in food, when that happens generally the pups will be coming along within a 24 hour period.

its probably starting, but it can last a while. she might just be getting more and more uncomfortable and trying to walk to make herself feel better. i know that what my mom did, she felt like she had indigestion and just kinda wabbled around for a while to try to make herself feel comfortable (until her water broke of course)

You should put a call in to your vet to ask these questions. They will be able to give you the best answers and probably more.

Not enough information. You ought to ask her vet, not people on Yahoo. If you want to do the right thing for her, that is.
