And in 1970, New York dentist George Milstein released Music to Grow Plants By, a record of songs to play for your plants. In fact, a few studies seemed to confirm that classical or soothing music would benefit plants, while loud aggressive music, like rock music, could cause them to wither and die. If you are a proponent of the theory, there are several records out there to help your houseplants be happy and healthy.

Ultimately, there is little concrete evidence that talking to your plants or playing music for them will help them grow, but if you enjoy it, by all means, do it. Just don't let the neighbors catch you!

This could be an interesting study. Minimizing confounding variables would be a major concern (e.g., do the people looking after the plants behave differently depending on the type of music?).

Once you establish that certain kinds of music increase growth, the next step would be to ask why? Generate several hypotheses and test each one. For example:

- vibrations reach the soil and stimulate the roots and surrounding microorganism. (Test by comparing effects of ground vs. sound vibrations).

- classical music has a particular calming, growth enhancing quality. (Test with other sounds and types of music that might have the same type of effect).

You might want to do a bit of reading too.

I would think classics like Beethoven. Because they say Beethoven make humans smarter so imagine what it would to plants.

I have heard it does when played in the morning or evening everday before the plants.
