so that governments can make loads of money. most of what you pay for a pack of cigs is Tax. money trumps health. that's why you never see a poor politicion

It's the classic rule of Supply and Demand. There's a great demand for them because of the addictive nature of Nicotine and as a result there is a supply for the right price.

because it's legal. If you've ever raelly noticed, all of the legal things in the world are addictive and really not good for you.
Liquor is legal. Why, when it causes so many of the motor vehicle accidents ? Or gambling. That's legal. Why when it really puts such a great financial strain on lives.

For the same reason that alcohol is still being sold. The governments would rather that they make the money instead of other organized criminals. Remember what happened during prohibition.

I don't want to see the government involved at all. But since they are, politicians don't have the guts to ban cigs because tax revenues will dry up. They like those at the government. But as more and more people quit smoking and revenues fall, it will be easier to ban smoking.

Tax revenue..if they were to outlaw it outright Billions of dollarsw would be lost and the special pet projects would have to shut down....or increase everyones taxes substantially to keep supporting social programs.

As much as I would like them to disappear off the face of the earth....

can you imagine what would happen if they did????? What about the farmers?

I'd hate to see all the angry smokers running around with a "nic-fit"
