he's hardly likely to remember or understand it so dont go overboard - save that for later birthdays. in my experience parents who go all out are doing it more for themslevs and less for the kid. having said that, why not do something special but not necessarily extravagant - go to the zoo or aquarium - somewhere he will be stimulated and excited by the difft things? a great gift for your son is just spending time with his family - could be anywhere. if you feel you have to spend, then put a big chunk into a savings account for him - boring i know, but thats his money for treats for him. sorry if its not the kind of great ideas answer you were after!
I'm sure he'll have a lovely day whatever u do!

Bake a birthday cake yourself.Frost it with baby yogurt. (You can have a regular cake with frosting if you want it there are others who don't want the "healthy" cake. )
Then set it in front of him after you removed the candle. and have your camera ready. He may plop his hand print in it or better yet dive face first. What ever he does preserve it in pictures.
Don't even worry about a gift this year. The pictures will mean more, and last longer.
Even at age 2 the gifts are not as important as fun in pulling off the paper from the gifts.

How about a personalized book? Kids love to hear their name in the storyline. Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have lots of titles like Sesame Street, Mother Goose, Teddy Bear Land, Three Little Pigs, Sports titles and so many more. Check it out - they're very reasonably priced, and make a wonderful & unique gift... Good Luck!

Seeing as a one year old has no idea what a birthday even is them why worry about it. Take the money you would spend on a present and put in a saving account for him to have when hes older.

I always suggest a small bike, by Fisher Price or Little Tykes. He will love it for a long time. Its something they can't get bored with and it gets them active. It teaches them balance and gives them a sense of "I can do it!" attitude. Besides it is so precious to watch them try and push it along. Good Luck!

I am completely serious when I say this:
A box with sticks from outside in it. Either that or a box with straws in it! My husband and I did that for our son for Christmas (along with some other stuff) and he STILL loves it!
Happy Birthday to your son!
