We have fair deel of idea about old civilizations, about few arceological sites proving that so called myths were facts, but no one till date has a rigid proof about origin of religions. There might be a hell lot of religions that have been exterminated. Like a plenty of tribes in african, australian and american coninents. Few fanatic rulers invaded the coninents, converted those tribes and left. We have no idea as to what religion did the these tribes belonged to before the arrival of these rulers. Well all I can say that most of these invaders wer from the landmass of eurasia (Europe and asia combined).
Earlier I believe it were the races and not the religions that discriminated people. religions came into picture far later than the mankind did. These races were based on the physical characterestics of the human being. Like an african, and caucasian or a chinese, all have distinct physical features.
We argue about the origin of the religions, but we must not forget that we created religion. We cannot forget our identity in search of the religions identity nor must we assume that our religion is our identity.
About asians being considered as backwards. There was a period when most of the asian countries were rated under developed countries. A lot of those countries are now self dependent but the tag remains.
Secondly there are a bunch of fanatics who still claim that their religion is better than the other major asian religions and call them backward to humilate them. you don't need to worry about such fanatics. 'Jab Haathi chalta hai toh usay bhonkte huye kuttay par dhyaan nahi dena chahiye'. No wonder they find shaking hands cool but folding their hands primitive, when they have 6 children in a row they find nothing wrong about it but when an asian goes for more than three they term asians as illiterate, they find it cool to wear cross but an asian wearing his religious symbol is a superstition, and a hell lot more examples.

The religions existing in the present world are originated in Asia because the atmosphere for spiritual awakening has been very much present in Asia. The vast readily available spiritual knowledge and the quest for God realization gave a number of sages to this part of the world. Many of the realised souls established their own faiths and got followers. Thus, the faiths getting large number of followers became different religions.

Salaam!
I don't know if the people answering your question are ignorant, arrogant, stubborn, or just not willing to give themselves thier own thought without listening to another for thier own reasons? This is actually an accurate inquiry. Original man(adam-pbuh) is believed to have been first existant in Ethiopia. Even the hindu religion has the belief of original man(purushna-I know I spelled that wrong). What most do not realise is that most religions have a basis that revovlves around hinduism. And thier beliefs are spread all throughout of africa. Mostly indiginous beliefs. Hinduism has most beliefs that are the core that were taken to a devilish extent. Or an supremecy extent that lost the notion of peace, freedom, and harmony. Don't get me wrong, some asians are backwards. But GOD has sent reminders to all of the regions for mercy. But most didn't take heed. Like the avatars of vishnu. People like Hare Krishna and Buddha.
If one was to study Rastafarianism, they aknowledge adam(pbuh) as being the first man and was existant in Ethiopia. That is why they return to that land. All religions derive from that region. From there, people spread through africa and even the natives(of america) are nomads(meaning they were travelers who ended up in what we call america). They came here through the Bering Straight that one day existed as a natural land bridge. With the same beliefs as thier ancestors. That of the asian culture.
We are the actual ones who are backwards. Taking everything that is natural and just distorting it to our own covets. For example, replacing animals that allah originally gave us as a mercy and replacing it with man made machines. No more riding horses. Now it is toxic oil cunsuming cars that are destroying this ONE world that we all share. Regardless of where your thought resides. But asians are backwards to an extent. My mother is Taiwanese, so I would know. But that is a character thing and can not be grounds for comparison to an entire race.

PEACE!
Edit: The main religions of the world originated in the africa asian region. And a region that people now call the middle east. Middle east? What is east or west? North or south? A compass does nothing but calculate gravitational pull. What happenned to using the sun for time and sense of direction? ALL MAJOR RELIGIONS come from that region. That is hinduism and all of the beliefs stolen from that culture, judaism, islam, and all indigenous beliefs. Christianity is a thief religion. Argue if you choose, but it is the truth. Because that is what they do. Period.

While it's true that Hinduism, Buddhism, Shintoism, etc. originated in Asia and that many of Jesus's sayings in Christianity bear a striking resemblance to Buddhism, I would disagree with your question/statement. Many religions came from the Middle East (Judaism, Islam, and the ancient Babylonian/Sumerian religions on which Judaism draws a lot of its mythology), and even Western Europe (Druids).

Asians have never been called 'backward' to my knowledge.
Asia or more correctly, what is termed as the middle east (South West Asia or Asia Minor), is the generally recognized seat of human civilization. Therefore, it stands to reason that many world religions started there.

Because Krishna Dvaipayana Vysa wrote the Vedas while sitting in Samyaprash, Badarikashrama of the Himalya regionon on the bank of river Sarasvati.
Veda means just knowledge, material or spiritual.
Vedavyasa wrote puranas, six each for the people with three modes of material nature. He wrote Mahabharata and at last wrote Srimad Bhagavatam as the essence of all Vedic Literatures.
Whatever knowledge is found in the Vedas is found in all the religions thruought the world. Whatever knowledge is not found in other religions is found in the Vedas.
When one understands that VEDA=KNOWLEDGE, one can understand the knowledge of Bible, Torah, Quran is contained within the VEDAS.

It is true that most of world religions were originated from Asian continent.
The religious activities were only a follow up of human civilisations. The Indus civilisations date back to 5000 years. There were no known civilisation older than this. Therefore it could be an important reason for many religions to be from Asia.
