My parents were the same way when I was younger. My brother and I would always wake up to long lists of chores that had to be done. At the time I thought it was really unfair - I mean what was left for mom to do when she got home - we worked our butts off all day....Now that I am married and have my own house to clean I have realized how much stuff there actually was for mom and dad to do. I should have been glad to help out. Don't worry that your friends are freaking out. Just think about how much your parents appreciate what you are doing.

I don't think its a lot (depending on your age)... when my boys ( 10 and 7) have a day off they DO help get the house cleaned up. the 10 yr old is in charge of loading the washer and the 7yr old the dryer. Even my 14 month old helps pick up. I personally feel it helps build character and discipline.

Your friends are the ones who are freaking out about nothing.
It's actually not really fair.. but your parents are seeking more help. Since you've got the day off, they take advantage of you. But this is normal, you don't have to freak out about this. My parents does that too sometimes. They want to clean up the house and to make it faster, they ask you for help.

You are part of a family and everyone needs to do their share. Would it be more fair if you just went off and did your thing and your parents had to spend all their time off cleaning and doing houshold chores. That doesn't seem like an unreasonable list to me.

Those are called ‘chores’ and no, that’s not an excessive amount. If your friends feel it’s ridiculous, then I’d venture to say they’re spoiled children whose parents wait on them hand and foot.

They are freaking out. I had a lot more as a kid. It teaches you discipline, and how to handle your home life as you get older. It's not a punishment so much as learning skills.

I think they're freaking out about nothing. You live in the house, and it won't hurt you to help out when you're out of school.

if my son has a day off like a bad weather day.... i do make him straighten up.... not as much as u do, but he has responsiblities.
you will appreciate when u are older and able to handle responsibility... your friends may not see that... i know it sucks... but i know it really helps out your folks... and i am sure they do alot for you.

it is a lot. ask your parents if you can do like weekly chores, and you have the whole week to do them. So then you still do the chores (which the parents will like) and you can have that one day of freedom to spend with your friends (which you and your friends will love)
