I'm a language student.
One day, i asked my (Buddhist) tutor to read some scripture on a tape for me to practice correct pronounciation and to memorize. He first read Eph 5:13 and then his eyes teared up and he couldn't speak. He recovered and said, "that is very beautiful"
After that I had him read Luke 4:18-19. In the third phrase his eyes, again, filled up, couldn't speak and this time he actually slumped over and almost laid his head down.
After he recovered and finished the recording, he said, "this is something we really like; it makes us very happy" (rough translation)
What was happening? Any ideas?
After this day he returned home to plant rice. When he returned he had new strings on his wrist; this is something done to "call the spirit of self confidence back"

for whatever it's worth; i was seriously trying to learn language (and scripture is important to me) and not trying to "get" this poor guy.

You have raised a very interesting question! I think that the answer rests in the nature of the Scripture rather than in the words alone. The bible makes the claim to be a living deposit of truths that the Holy Spirit uses to touch the lives of men. I happen to believe this and it appears that such is the case with your Buddhist tutor. For those references you might want to check out the following verses: Hebrews 4:12 and 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

The spirit is the spirit. It connects to each and everyone of us in a different way. Emotions are a form of energy. When we learn to let the emotions to flow through us we can tap them. These movements of the assembly point (where we are) free up pent up negative energy and allow us to use it in positive ways. Even when we change how we look at things, we try to maintain a level of continuity. Maybe he's not asking the "spirit of self confidence" to return, maybe he's just asking to have the strength of it lent to him. How you see god shows people who you are.

I would think the word 'captives' in Luke 4:18, were very heartfelt. In Asia, this has been an unfortunate fact of life for many people.
Buddhists are enlightened, they know the truth when they hear it. Many of Buddha's teachings are similar to what Christ taught. It is evidence to the truth they contain.

What happens is it sounds like you're giving us a commercial, that link gave it away.
You turned everything positive into commercialism. God and Jesus are not products to be sold via a web site. If you have to hard sell God and Jesus, they aren't worth buying.
As for the rest of your posting, I take it with a grain of salt because of the commercialism.
That link, by the way, violates Yahoo's community standards rules (we all have Bibles and can look them up ourselves, we don't need a link to an organization).
In short, you sinned.

The Bible is an instruction manual for a relationship with GOD. If you have a relationship with GOD and finally got to see the manual you would be in tears of joy. My best guess is this Tutor has been talking to GOD lately.
Shalom.

The bible says the Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Once you've been exposed to the Word, and your spirit receives what it is saying, you'll see things in a new "light", literally. So maybe this is what happened to him.

The word of God is alive and living, it is not a dead letter. The inspired words have Power and many recieve the gift of tears when reading the Bible.

I think in Ephesians, he saw that nothing is hidden from God and in Luke, that the Spirit of the Lord was with him, and it overwhelmed him with what God has done.
