It seems everyone I e-mail takes a year to respond...What do I do now? Just waltz into the next place and ask to help?

I would suggest that you contact your local volunteer center. I like to recommend Hands On Network affiliates. Your center is called Hands On Nashville:

http://www.hon.org/
209 10th Avenue South, Suite 318,
Nashville, TN 37203
Ph: 615-298-1108
Fax: 615-298-2397

Your volunteer center can connect you with various one-time or short-term projects, and will be able to provide you with any appropriate paperwork you might need for your community service.

Good luck!

Phone or go right in is even better. People find it harder to turn you down to your face. Nursing homes always need volunteers (even to play cards with some lonely people) Hospitals, schools,

--you could probably join a service club like civitan or rotary. You could coach a kids team or help out.

Don't email, use the old fashioned phone.
You can always stop in an animal shelter. They always need volunteers.
If you belong to a church/Temple, go there and see if you can help in the office.
Good luck!

Homeless shelters always need people....you may not get a job you like but there are plenty of things that need doing.
