What a jerk!! that is horrible, something similar happened to me, I was with a guy for two years, and on our two year anniversary, he woke me up at 2:00 in the morning to tell me he didn't want to be with me anymore. Men are pigs and they think with the wrong head. Don't let him think he hurt you, that's what he wants. Keep your head up you'll find someone worth a crap.
