I travel around 30,000+ miles a year. sadly I do not choose my flight based on the food. Why? well I have a standard diet, so I do not need to restrict myself to Vegan or speciality food first off. Secondly, most airlines just serve mediocre food that is so and so. Some of course such as Cathay Pacific will stand out compared to the rest, but then again it may not be available for your area, and the price difference between the two carriers can be around $100+. And if that is the case..for $100+ you can get a much better meal at a restaurant.
Of course food in first class is always good (well..better), but then again yes..for instance I find continental first class food better than some others, but then again you have to compare price and value, and usually the difference in price, and perks..does not justify paying an additional $100-400 and/or not getting miles from your prefered carrier, because you may get slightly better food on your 6-12 hour flight. With the perks and/or money you save...you might as well eat out at your destination and get a wonderful meal. Honestly..a $20 meal from Chilis is probably better than any first class meal you'd find on any flight carrier.

I never choose based on the food they're serving. I pick my flights based on what time I want to fly, and when my preferred airlines can get me to where I want to go. I do stick with 2 airlines and I fly a lot so I get upgraded to first class a lot, but I still don't care about--- or count on--- the meal service. If I'm that concerned about a meal, I'll buy something in the airport.
