I just bought this van 3 weeks ago and it started not wanting to shift up or down. I checked fluid level and it was a bit over the line so it was full. The RPMs would go up and up and the van would go no faster then WAM slam into gear and when i had 2 stop it would die on me completely, but it would restart. It continues to do this so i have left it sitting. The car lot I got it from said it would take care of it but, they haven't. So I am wondering how do i fix it or see what needs to be fixed if I dont have the money to have it repaired

PUT THE FORK IN-[your done]-voyagers are notorious for defective transmissions and they cost thousands to put in -it sucks but research in books like "consumer reports" and others before you buy a used car next time or ask someone who you trust that knows cars-the seller offed a "lemon"on you and now you either need a big "friend" to visit them with you or take a bus to work-used car salesmen have a special place in hell awaiting them, right next to lawyers and home owners association presidents!!

It may be the transmission, but check the catalytic converter. Sometimes when the catalytic converter clogs up, it seems like it is the transmission going out, no power and doesn't want to shift. Get under the van and tap the catalytic converter with a hammer then drive the van down the road. If there is a change, then your catalytic converter is clogged. Also, check the muffler to see how much exhaust is coming out of the tailpipe. If it is a little, then it is the catalytic converter. A lot of the older model Dodges have problems with their catalytic converters clogging up and people spend hundreds of dollars repairing the transmission and wasting money to do so, when it is just the catalytic converter. If its not the catalytic converter, then have your transmission checked by a professional. Don't take your vehicle to a "shade tree mechanic", but have it looked at by a local Dodge dealer or a transmission shop.

Hope this helps.

until you take it to someone whom can fix it try manually shifting the transmission yourself. Sadly that's a royal pain to have to downshift at every light you stop at but it will keep from that slam dance that's happening in your tranny. just shift from gear to gear manually at the usual speeds the tranny shifted when it worked right...

In the old days when our tranny started shifting high and hard we knew it was a vacuum modulator on the side of the tranny. However, I have no clue about if that 1995 does.

the transmission probably never had a trans oil change. tane to a garage and have them do a trans fluid change and replace the filter and gasket for the pan.the mechanic will find metal shavings on the bottom of the pan. this happens which will clog the filter and stop fluid to flow thru the trans and stopping the vehicle from shifting properly.

to diagnose a trans problem it usualy needs to be romoved and opened up. sound to me like you need a trans overhaul, and that can run about $2,000 at the dealer. take itto a dealer or a tranny shop.
