The original formulation of American fundamentalist beliefs can be traced to the Niagara Bible Conference (1878–1897) and, in 1910, to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church which distilled these into what became known as the "five fundamentals":

Inerrancy of the Scriptures
The virgin birth and the deity of Jesus
The doctrine of substitutionary atonement through God's grace and human faith
The bodily resurrection of Jesus
The authenticity of Christ's miracles (or, alternatively, his premillennial second coming)

A fundamentalist is simply a person who holds the fundamentals of their particular discipline (the essentials, the most basic tenets or set of principles) as their highest value. This can apply to any field or discipline such as religion, science, medicine, art etc... However, recently some religious sects have been referred to as fundamentalists. The first answerer here is only looking at the christain sects in his list of requirements. Islamic religionists can also be viewed as fundamentalists if they hold the fundamentals of thier religion in the highest regard.
The problem with many fundamentalists is that they often don't agree on exactly what the fundamentals are. Additionally, they sometimes place the value on the fundamentals they choose beyond reason or examination, meaning that if some new evidence or knowledge comes to light that has the possibility of changing one of their fundamentals, they reject it outright.

Fundamentalism (in the manner popularly applied) is closely linked to tunnel-vision. We mostly argue theories that can interpret differently depending on a persons point of view. A fundamentalist will not consider let alone look at any other possible point of view and will show aggression when challenged.

As you can see from the first answer, they insist on "inerrency" of Scripture. If that applies to the original Hebrew (which of course we don't have) it would be irrelevant, and if it applies to a current translation it would be inaccurate. They affirm that the name of the Messiah was "Jesus" which is stupid, there was no "J" until 1400 A.D. and His name was not iesus or Hail Zeus. It was YAHOSHUA. So you see I am not a "fundamentalist". and no true believer in Scripture is either.

I've never thought of you as a fundamentalist.
After seeing and responding to some of your hate-filled Q's and A's, I think of you as more of a hypocrite.

I go through a lot every day, but I don't respond by spewing hatred at those who believe differently from me, so please don't use that as an excuse. When the ecstasy of your sunrise wears off I expect to see the real you return. I just hope you'll prove me wrong...

Perhaps what ppl are saying is the awful lawful God you portray, or the contradictory Gods you promote, have become unbelievable. Returning to the middle ages is intellectual suicide.

The narrow way isn't life, but notably only "leadeth unto life" by "go on" of the two options for bi-polar narrow way folk:
either draw back (to perdition) <-or-> go on (to perfection)
either make the tree good(grace)-> "or" <-corrupt(law)

Broad Way <- Narrow Way -> More Excellent Way
Law <- Law vs Grace -> Grace

Not to mention the end of the God Shew is already written:

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ WITH YOU ALL. AMEN.

A fundy is a very religious person who goes out and tries to convert people to their religion, and holds an unmovable belief, almost to an unhealthy point, about their own faith.
