In my opinion, the best receptions are the ones that are truly about the couple getting married, and celebrate that committment. I've been to tons of weddings & receptions - everything from a handfast in the woods to elaborate sit-down dinners for 350 at a country club.
The ones that were the most memorable were the ones that didn't necessarily try to have the "best" reception. They were the ones that had the attitude of celebration of the couple's marriage - they were the ones filled with laughter and joy, and the ones people talked about for a long time afterword.
I know it's probably not the answer you're looking for, but seriously, it all goes by really fast. You have an opportunity to have a fantastic party and be the guest of honor - focus on that, and you can't go wrong.
Best of luck!

If we had it to do over again, we would have went to Vegas, then had an informal party a couple of weeks later, inviting twice as many people. We had about 200 at our wedding and had cut the list short.
My opinion of big wedding? Save your money. Put the cabin money towards a house. People come to a wedding and go to the reception. They sit through the wedding and party at the reception. After a couple of days, it just becomes a fading memory for them. They remember how good the food was and whether it was an open or cash bar and how trashed they got. May not sound great, but that's reality.
One idea. On all of the tables, put a couple of disposable color camaras with a note asking the people at the table to take pictures of the table and the reception. You photographer will be focusing on your activities and still get a few of the party. The disposables will show you things you never imagined and provide many laughs. Just be warned. If you put out 50 camaras, don't be suprised if you on get 1/2 of them back. You will still get plenty of memories from the ones that are returned.

That sounds lovely! Don't think in terms of a "theme." Just try to relate everything you plan and do to the area you are getting married at. Choose nature-like colors that will be around during the season you'll be getting married.
A friend went to a wedding like that, and for favors they gave out little jars of maple syrup that were produced in the local area. I don't know if the area you're thinking of has syrup-producing trees, but I think a favor that relates to the specific area you're in would be wonderful. Skip all the typical wedding favors.
The decor is easy...it's all around you! Have bouquets of wildflowers, and put more flowers in small baskets on the table for centerpieces. Basically, embrace the beauty of your natural surroundings and incorporate it in every way you can.

I had mine in a brewery! No, it wasn't trashy. It was actually quite beautiful. My parents still heard comments a couple of years later about how beautiful the ceremony (overlooking a nearby lake in the fall) and the reception were. The reception was in the part of the brewery where these huge copper vats were, which was beautiful. It's a popular place for receptions where we live. They have a bar in there and everything. It was a blast, and we didn't have to worry about running out of beer!

I don't know really, but I doubt having a wedding reception in the mountains would be number 1 on my list. Unless you are a "mountainy" type of person, and so are your guest, then you should have it some place neutral. Not everyone wants to sip moonshine with the squirrels while dancing on twigs in their finery.

That sounds like a lot of fun! As long as your guests feel welcome and comfortable, it will be a great reception. Invest in a good DJ, they can make or break a reception.

Hmmm....nice idea.
Could be kept simple and rustic.
Picnic buffet, wildflowers, colored favor pails filled with heart candies or whatever...like they have on http://www.TheWeddingFavorCompany.com
