There is not much you can do to make him see your point of view. People who are older are usually to set in there ways to see things from different sides. My father was the same way when my sister was dating a man of a different race. Eventually he came around to see that the guy wasn't as bad as he thought he was. He still doesn't like the idea but he has come to see that he made her happy and that is all that should matter. I hope that your grandfather comes around to this way of thinking. Good luck.

Take it from me - There is no way to get him to understand. It's been 3 years with my boyfriend, and his father STILL doesn't understand. He thinks I am evil. I'm not Catholic, and that's why he hates me. Just because you love him doesn't prove a thing to him. The only thing you can do is be true to yourself and stay happy. Don't let your family be the reason for your downfall. It almost happened to us. We were so concerned about what his father thought that we almost left each other. After those events, we realised that it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, it's what matters to both of us. Stay strong, sweetie.

Try sitting down with him and truly explaining how you feel. Ask for his input, but limit it to real reasoning, not stereotypes or racism. Show him with a mature, rational conversation and actions that you are capable of living your life and that having a boyfriend does not mean that you will cut him out of your life. If he is still unable or unwilling to accept it, then you will have to learn to live with it. Sometimes it takes a lot to shake someone from their set ways. My grandpa hated blacks until my sister married one. He was finally able to see the good he never saw before.

Don't work too hard at it. Listen to your grandpa and don't interrupt. He has his concerns for his own reasons. Once you have listened thank him for his input. And feel free to let him know your side and any arguments against his thoughts but make sure you continue to show respect to him. Let him know you will be cautious in all your choices but you are the one that will make those choices. Finally don't allow the issue to come between your relationship with your grandpa. Continue as you always have and sooner or later it will all come together.
