Can I get antibiotics that my doctor has previously prescribed to me without going to see him. When I get the flu, he always gives me the same thing but I don't remember the name of that medicine. So If I know what he's going to give me why not just go to the pharmacy and get what I need. You think the pharmacist will let me? I know, I need to find out the name of the medicine first, maybe I can just call my doctor if thats possible.

The pharmacist shouldn't give you the medication without a prescription from the doctor. You should call your doctor and see if he'll send the prescription to the pharmacy for you. Some will and some won't, but it's worth a try.

You should go to a doctor. Antibiotics are too precious to be prescribed willy-nilly. The number of antibiotic resistant bugs are growing. Also, if you get a flu, antibiotics should not be given because the flu is a virus and antibiotics are for bacteria. Does he give you Relenza- an anti-viral- for the flu?
A pharmacist will only dispense prescription only antibiotics with a prescription. A sore throat does not automatially mean one has a bacterially infected throat.

antibiotics should be taken for the whole duration with the right dose and the right daily frequency even if you start to feel better because that will be the antibiotic therapy adequate enough to kill the microorganism causing the infection. most people self medicate on antibiotics because some could be bought over the counter and stop it when they feel better not knowing that the microorganism is just starting to weaken but did not yet die, the result is the microorganism will mutate into something stronger and will be resistant to the same antibiotic. the microorganism will require a stronger antibiotic this time. that is why it is best to call your doc for any antibiotic therapy. because he/she will tell you what's appropriate and what's appropriate timing. what could have caused your flu may not be what is causing your sore throat infection. :-)

You have to have a new prescription each time you get a medication. Your pharmacist doesn't have the authority to write you a prescription. And what the heck is your doctor giving you andt-biotics for the flu for anyway?? Anti-biotics have now effect on viruses and the fly is a virus. A lot of doctors prescribe a lot of unneeded anti-biotics that aren't going to work anyway just to make the patient happy. But again.......anti-biotics will not help you if you have the flu!!!

Why are you wanting drugs? just heal the problem! Get a cool mist humidifier, and add a pint of hydrogen peroxide to the gallon tank. Run this at night while sleeping. The mist helps to disinfect the lungs etc. Peroxide is something your body makes to fight infections, so you are not adding a foreign element. For Flu: do a salt flush to cleanse the colon (two heaping teaspoons of salt in two quarts of warm water drink it in a half hour, plan on spending an hour in the bathroom. Drink plenty of water. no food for a few days, and take charcoal to neutralize the toxins of the dead bugs.

Try some home remedies first. Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

your doc needs to see if it is viral or bacterial. if it is bacterial he needs to do a culture and sensitivity to know the right antibiotic to prescribe. antibiotics and especially the wrong ones are used too often, which causes resistant infections, and people don't take them exactly how they are prescribed. so you need to see your doc, get the c&s, and get the right antibiotic if your infection is bacterial, they don't do anything for viral infections and it isn't good to take them when they aren't needed.

Just call your doctor and ask him if he is willing to call a prescription in for you for a throat infection. But if you have strep you need abx either way, so go in if you need to.
