I am not really sure how to say it politely, but my dog (3 y/o chocolate lab) farts a lot. They smell so bad, especially when we're in the car. Is there something I can do to help this problem?

Try an on line pet store or a regular walk in store, like Petco...there seriously are products out there that claim to reduce or eliminate the smell in a dogs fart....try this...

Check the ingredients in the food you are feeding. Things like soy are very likely to cause excessive gas. Try switching to a soy free food. I owned a dog years ago with a similar problem, and once we switched to a non soy based food the air quality improved quickly! Now I feed strictly soy-free and haven't had another problem.

I feel....er.....smell your pain. My puppy is a farting machine. From what I've been told there is nothing you can do to stop it other than making sure you aren't switching their diet around from food to food or experimenting with different kinds of treats. I suggest just getting out of the room....fast!

Change his dog food or whatever you are feeding him. This may be happening because he is allergic to something he is eating, especially if you are giving him table scraps. If that doesn't work, take him to the vet.

Also, you shouldn't walk your dog for at least a half hour to forty-five minutes after it eats. This does something to their stomach that can be very dangerous!

Good luck!

Some dog breeds are known for their flatulence. Pugs, while adorable and loving, emit gas bombs that could derail a train.

It could be the diet your dog is on, or it could be just an unavoidable natural occurrence. Check with your vet.

What kind of food do you feed your dog? I would try to feed California Natural, Canidae, or one of the better quality dog foods. Most over the counter dog foods contain wheat, soy, corn, etc. which dogs aren't able to process.

lots of foods use wheat and corn as filler and these make dogs have terrible gas.
good luck, you'll need it!
