If you have windows movie maker, it's as simple as taking a picture (of your video, that is). Open up movie maker, import your video, and put it into the timeline (or storyboard, whatever floats your boat). Once it's in, you should see the preview screen on the right with your video. On the bottom of the preview screen there are the play controls, and then at the very right you will see two buttons. There should be on that looks like a camera and when you put your mouse over it, it should say "take picture." Go to the timeline or preview screen and find the frame in the video where you want to take a picture of, and then go and click the button, and then select where you want to save it. Hope this helps!

There is a software by Adobe that works, if you want a cheap package price you can get photo editing tools with it too. I picked mine up at a local business store and it works great but I checked out the whole list of products on the net before I decided. Seems like the entire set of products ran about $139 back over a year ago.
Go to Adobe's website and search for Editing software. Make sure it works with your computer first.
Also make sure you media is something that will load on your computer (other wise the hook up is wicked and you will need special cables and other junk) best of luck

There is shareware available which will render individual shots off a video. Blinker [link attached] -- look for the conversion functions and convert to a .jpg or .bmp. I have found this as good, if not better than the adobe package which costs 100s to purchase.
