Does anyone know how many cortisone injections per year are safe for the tissues? I've heard that noone must exceed three in a year. How often are to be done? I had one, after a week the second one, and the doctor will give me the third one after 15 days (trochanteric bursitis). Does anyone knows something? Thanks!

I get them 2X a year, my Dr. who specializes in those, (one of the areas he is a *specialist* at) told me not more than twice a year.

I am a caregiver, I have seen what cortisone can do to your skin after years of use. When you are old your skin can become thin as paper, it can bruise quite easily and can hold in fluid that can "leak" through this thin skin.

I asked my Dr. about this very thing as I sure didn't want to end up like a lot of my elderly patients did. He told me that is mostly with oral cortisone, and that as long as I stay with these shots just twice a year, no closer than 6 mos. apart I will be alright.
I take them for tendonitis, tenosynvitis, bursitis and arthritis.

The shots will last anywhere between 3-8 mos. for me anyway.
Good Luck with those. I claim cortisone as *my* drug of choice. I wouldn't want to be without it. Besides, it is about *quality* of life is it not?

I've been told no more than 3 a year. Of course those 3 are usually in a course as you've described.
My wife just had one deep tissue massage by a well trained masseuse which fixed a hip problem that the doctor had scheduled for a course of cortisone injections. He also fixed other problem in her shoulder which was scheduled for decompression operation next month. She's going back for a follow up next week to finish off. She feels like a new woman.

I don't believe any are "safe". They say only 4, but how can one help, but to mask the messages the body is sending?
