Carnival is going to be the least expensive line, and also have a much younger age group onboard. There will also be quite a few kids since it more affordable for families. Carnival is not one of the best lines out there, and they have declined in quality over the past several years, in my opinion. The food isn't exceptional, the service could use a lot of help and the ship isn't quite as clean as some of the others, but that is just my opinion, if you have never cruised before on another line, you may not notice it as much. Also, I feel that Carnival is best if you enjoy partying and things like that, it can get pretty crazy onboard.
Royal Caribbean would be another option and my choice of the two. Depending on the cruise, it may actually run less than Carnival, but most of the time they are the same price or a little more. But, you get better service, food, the ship is cleanier, etc. The average aga onboard may be a little older than Carnival, but it is still a ton of fun, some of the ships have a slightly older passgener base, while some have a younger base. I think that the all around cruise with Royal Caribbean is better and well worth the extra money.
Either way, I would try to find a newer ship. No matter the line, newer ships are almost always more fun, cleaner, etc. Freedom of the Seas is a really great ship, but it may be a little out of your budget.
Have a great time!

In my book its Royal Caribbean hand down. Some people who have never been on any cruise line other than Carnival may think they are the best. But I have been on Princess, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Norwegian and I put RC at the top of my listed based on food, service, entertainment, amenities, ambiance, and the type passengers.
Carnival lives up to its reputation as the "party cruise boat". Its the line for young folks and first time cruisers. Its also the sheapest. On the other hand, RC has a more reserved crowd, still fun loving people, but just not as loud. RC has the deck games during sea days, the discos that run into the wee hours, and all types of activities for everyone. RC's new ship, Freedom of the Seas, is one of THE best ships afloat with things like a rock climbing wall, a mini-golf course, a full sized basketball court, an ice skating rink, and it is the only ship afloat (except the next Rc ship Liberty of the Seas) that has a "Flo-Ride" which is a place to body surf onship.
The decor on RC ships is excuisite and on the new Freedom they have upgraded all of the beds in all of the cabins to pillowtops; we were told that this is being expanded to all of their ships. So no more of those hard bunk beds on RC ships. The Freedom also has flat panel high definition TV's in the cabins. RC seems to have launched many more new ships than Carnival in the past 5 years and they have more upscale aminities like these.
My favorite RC ships are the Jewel of the Seas (did that one to Canada) and the Brillance of the Seas (did that one to the Mediterranian).
You may be able to go on Carnival cruise for less but I think you will enjoy one of the other's better.

We have cruised on Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Princes and Costa. Royal Caribbean is the absolute best cruise line. The price is very comparable but the service, food, accommodations, amenities are so, so much better than the rest!!! Please don't waste your money on carnival. I've cruised with them 3 times and all three were terrible, The ship was dirty, the staff rude and unless you really love to play bingo you will be bored out of your mind!!!

Carnival and Princess. Try vacationstogo.com for great deals. It is not true that someone has to be 25 in each room. As long as everyone is 21 and older its fine. If you don't mind cruising last minute you can get really good deals. Check your local newspaper, and other cruise websites!

I have been on several cruises. I can say that Carnival is for younger people. It was also the cheapest. They have wonderful stops in the Bahamas with several excursions. You can swim with dolphins, snorkel, kayak. I can tell you that Holland-America is definitely for older people so you will want to stay away from that line. I took an Alaskan cruise with Norwegian, that to was for older people. Carnival was not the nicest cruise line by far, but you get the same experience. Have fun on your cruise.

Carnival is a very affordable and fun cruise line.
Check out www.vacationstogo.com for cruise deals.
However, keep in mind that most fares you see quoted on the web do not include port fees and taxes. You should also plan for $10 per day per guest for gratutites. Carnival charges your account for the tips the moment you step on the ship.
Keep in mind...Carnival requires at least one guest to be age 25 in each cabin.

Check out Carnival. They have great deals now for the Caribbean and Mexico. I'm taking a 5 night / 6 day cruise out of Miami to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands on 2/26. I spent $450 for stateroom for myself. That's a good deal for one person.
