Ok...I am interested to find a working dog for me...since I am deaf/hard of hearing but I do wear hearing aid in one ear and cochlear in other ear. Anyone know where I can find this information on website that is recommended about this? I live in Upper State NY. And..what kind of dog would it be good to have or do they give you the dog that is being trained for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing? Good suggestions or info would be helpful.
Not sure what catagory I should put..hope the Pet catagory is ok.
Thanks =)

I've mostly seen Labs and Retrievers being used for this service as well as many rescue dogs. Amazing dogs. Below is a link that might help you in your search. They are located in Oregon, but they might be able to hook you up with someone closer to you.

Here in Michigan, we have a group called "Paw for a Cause" which trains assistance dogs for the hearing impaired. Most of the dogs I have seen them with is Golden Retrievers and a few labs. But I also saw someone with a miniature American Eskimo at one point too. Basically, what ever place you end up working with, they will be the ones who will select the specific dog to train. They test puppies to determine if they are a good candidate and go on from there. Not all dogs that start the training will finish it tho. Some get to a certain point, but just don't seem suitable for the tasks they are needed to do.

I would do a search on the internet for your area and see if you can find a place near you that trains dogs for service/assistance work.

I really don't think this would be worth the money. In reality you are not talking brain x-ray, you are talking complex MRI scans and that is a whole lot more expensive. Don't think you'd get much change out of a couple of thousand dollars. Don't even know if it would show anything anyway and even if it did you would still have to find a way to work with the dog. Any results from a scan wouldn't tell you that. Stick with it and keep trying different things and put your efforts into stopping scumbags like the breeder you got him from going about their money grabbing business causing dogs and owners nothing but problems.

A hearing for the deaf dog has to be specially trained the same as a guide dog for the blind. Contact your nearest society and they will give you all the advice and help you will need. I am sure that they will be more than helpful for you.

Contact your local Lions Club. They will be more than happy to help you out. Will probably pay for most of it also. Good luck
