Under the Mosaic Covenant, the Temple on Mt. Moriah in Jerusalem is the only place on earth where Jews may offer sacrifices to God. Sacrifices may not be offered anywhere else. Most Jews today teach that sacrifices are either no longer necessary for atonement of sins (since the Temple was destroyed in 70 A.D.) or that they may be offered elsewhere, because there is no Temple. However, a careful study of the Bible proves these teachings are false: God NEVER stated this under the Mosaic Covenant, nor did He state this through a prophet before or after the Temple's destruction. This is a concept that only came to believers under the New Covenant.

Messianic Jews (and gentiles) who have entered the New Covenant given by Yeshua (Jesus) do not have to offer literal sacrifices -- Yeshua's death was considered the fulfillment of ALL sacrifices: burnt offering (for intentional sin), sin offering (for unintentional sin), grain offering, heave offering, etc. Believers under the New Covenant are also expected to make their holy lives a continual offering to God.

A second significance of Jerusalem is that both the Old Testament AND the New Testament state the Messiah will return to the Mt. of Olives, in Jerusalem. See Zechariah 14:4 and Acts 1:9-12.

Please keep religious propoganda at the door when answering a question....
Jerusalem was both the capital of the united kingdom and the holy city. It was located between Judah and the rest of Israel- btween Judah and Benjamin- and was neutral because it was not owned by either side prior to David conquering it. The temple was built in Jerusalem, cementing the cities religious importance, and centering the jewish/israelite life around it.
