The only breaks in the Polar Bear’s camouflage are three black dots - the nose and its two eyes. It seems like the bear knows it and often when stalking prey on the ice surface, some bears put their paws over their black noses to make themselves less conspicuous.

The Coca-cola Christmas time commercial may have had nice sentiments, but it is wrong. Polar bears and penguins would never sit down together in their natural habitats. Polar bears are in the Arctic polar region while penguins are on the continent of Antarctica. They're polar opposites-pardon the pun. :P There is no land mass at the North Pole. It is all ice or ice floes. The fibers of a polar bear's fur are indeed clear like a previous person answered, not white as is popularly believed. The fibers are also hollow. This prevents heat energy transfer--i.e. helps keep the bear warm. The front paws of a polar bear are webbed to aid in swimming. The paws themselves have thicker than normal pads and the pads are a bit furry. The thickness helps prevent injury from jagged, sharp chunks of ice and the furriness helps with traction.
As far as what it eats is just about anything it can get its claws into: seals, fish, caribou.
Hope this helps.

Where do polar bears live?
Polar bears range throughout the circumpolar north in areas where they can hunt seals at open leads. The five "polar bear nations" in which the bears are found include the U.S. (Alaska), Canada, Russia, Denmark (Greenland), and Norway. Polar bears do not live in the southern hemisphere.

hope this helps for what ever you need it for

What adaptations have polar bears made to their environment?
Polar bears are perfectly adapted to survive in the harsh conditions of the Arctic, where winter temperatures can plunge to -45° C (-50° F). Two layers of fur provide the bears with such good insulation that they experience almost no heat loss. In addition, they are protected with a layer of blubber that can measure 11.5 cm (4.5 inches) thick. Compact ears and a small tail also prevent heat loss.

Polar bears are so well protected from the cold that they have more problems with overheating than they do from the cold. Even in very cold weather, they quickly overheat when they try to run.

Other adaptations include small bumps called papillae that keep their feet from slipping on ice; strong, powerful claws that enable them to catch seals; and a nose powerful enough to detect prey that is miles away.

What do polar bears eat?
Seals are the polar bear's primary prey, particularly the ringed seal and, sometimes, the bearded seal. When hunting is good, polar bears will typically eat only the fat and leave the rest of the carcass for scavengers including arctic foxes, ravens, and younger bears.

Polar bears also sometimes kill and eat both walrus and beluga whales. They have been known to hunt short-legged reindeer and sometimes snack on other foods including birds, bird eggs, kelp, and beached whales. On Norway's Svalbard Islands, polar bears were once found feasting on a 350-year-old bowhead whale carcass that was uncovered by a retreating glacier.

What is the polar bear's place in the food chain?
Polar bears top the food chain in the Arctic. They help keep the balance of nature by preventing an overpopulation of seals.

Polar bears live along shores and on sea ice in the icy cold Arctic. The polar bear has many unique adaptations for dealing with the Arctic cold. The polar bear's skin is actually black, which allows it to soak up as much heat as possible from the sun. They are also great swimmers and will swim from ice floe to ice floe. They have been seen swimming 50 miles away from any ice or land.

Breeding: Sexually mature at 4-8 years. Breed polygamously, April through June, with 1-3 cubs every 28 months. Pregnant females dig a den in October through December where cubs are born December to January and stay until March or April. Lactation lasts 28 months. May live 25-30 years.

Habitat:
Range: They spend their entire life associated with pack ice. Females may prefer ice along the shoreline while others prefer moving sea ice at the floe edge -usually within 180 miles of shore.

Diet: Eats mostly ringed and bearded seals. They will occasionally eat other mammals, eggs, vegetation and beach-cast carrion. Polar bears don't drink water. They get all the liquids that they need from the animals that they eat.
Polar bears have fur that is made up of "hollow guard hairs." Sometimes when polar bears live in zoos that are in a warmer climate, they can have algae growing inside the hollow guard hairs of their fur. This makes them have a greenish tint to their fur. These hollow hairs also keep their hair from matting down when they swim in water.
Polar bears are usually solitary except for female-cub groups, during mating season, and at abundant food sources.
Pregnant females den up for winter but do not hibernate. All polar bears may den temporarily to avoid bad weather.
They dog-paddle with their head and much of their back above water. Their blubber helps to float them as they swim. They can swim at an average of 6 miles per hour.
Polar bears find a seal air hole and sneak up on it slowly and sit there until a seal comes up to breathe and then they scoop him right out of the hole.

I know its not what you asked for but heres some fun facts:

1) Polar bears actully have clear fur, and black skin. They only appear white from the light reflecting off snow.
2) Polar bears will cover thier black noses while hunting!! this hides them from what they are hunting
3) All polar bears are left pawed

The polar bear is in the Arctic. Penguins live in the Antarctic (South Pole.)

Yes! Most sources indicate that the long, coarse guard hairs, which protect the plush thick undercoat, are hollow and transparent. The thinner hairs of the undercoat are not hollow, but they, like the guard hairs, are colorless.

Okay, it would be more productive if you were spouting facts instead of half-truths and outright lies. Let's take this one at a time. Palin's husband does not work for BP. He did work for BP for 18 years. He quit his position with them when his wife, as governor, began negotiations with BP for the new natural gas pipeline. He quit his position so there would NOT be a conflict of interest. Palin sued the American government for creating a situation that was not in the best interests of the populace she respresents. Polar Bears in Alaska should not be on the endangered species list for two reasons. One, there has actually been a bit of a population explosion with Alaskan polar bears. Their numbers have increased tremendously in recent years. Although polar bears in other regions of the world are facing hardship, Alaskan polar bears are actually doing better than ever. Two, Restrictions outlined by the endangered species act would severely limit Alaska's ability to find new sources of oil. You might think drilling in Alaska helps "big oil" but you would be quite mistaken. Since Bush has begun pushing for offshore drilling and lifting bans that prevent us from drilling in Alaska, gas prices in my area have dropped 60-70 cents a gallon in just a few weeks. Obviously, the idea of Americans generating their own oil supply changed "big oil's" ideas on just how high they can jack up the prices before the USA does something about it. They don't want us to drill, they want us dependent on them. "McCain/Palin '08 --- "Making our economy stronger by keeping it at the mercy of the Middle East" and "Ensuring that America never goes green!" " I don't get how you can say either of these things, unless you have yet to do any research on McCain, or you have not listened to him speak. McCain certainly does not want us at the mercy of the Middle East. First, tapping into America's own oil supplies is a move designed to liberate us from the Middle East. Second, I've listened to both Obama and McCain speaking about energy and it would seem that everyone is pretty much agreed that finding new energy solutions is of the utmost importance. In fact the only thing I have a problem with in either of the candidates plans, is Obama's insistance that it would take 10 years to produce our own oil, when Russia just proved a site can be up and ready to drill within one months time. True we still need refineries, but most of this stuff is literally pre-fab these days, it doesn't take very long it just takes substantial up front funding. Saying that it takes 10 years is either deliberately misleading or horrendously ignorant. As far as Palin goes, HELLO she is the driving force behind the new Alaskan natural gas pipeline. She sued the US government to make sure her state didn't lose their right to look for and drill for oil. She spoke just yesterday about looking into alternative fuel and starting to take the steps to eventually get us off oil all together. So what did we learn here? You should do your homework before you run your mout to avoid sounding like an ignorant hateful and misguided fool. Have a nice day.

They can swim with velocity of 10 km/h, they can go 3-4,5m under water and they can rest under water up to 2 minutes

When they are crossing the thin ice they crawl on their stomach so the ice does not break

They like to sleep a lot (70 percent of the day)

They eat seals and they can smell them from 32km away)
