I like the work of pretty much all artists (not that keen on surrealism, but it's ok), but I do have a few favourites; Michelangelo (although also a sculptor and architect), Leonardo da Vinci (painter, sculptor, architect and inventor), Claude Monet, Joseph Turner and Raphael Santi (painter, sculptor and architect). I also quite like Vincent van Gogh's work.
If I had to choose between my favourites, it would have to be the 3 Renaissance artists and no, I couldn't choose which one.

I love Velazquez. I always have a book of his work open when I am painting . My children often 'Mummy why is the book open at a painting of an old man when you are painting a child ?¨' I love to se how he puts paint on ...really throws it about and it just lands in the right places. I am very aware though how careful one must be not to cary on where these great masters left off by which i mean if you look at all the masters their early work is quite tight and dry and careful like a musician having to learn his notes before he plays with magical abandon he has strummed away like us all . And hard work is a great part of it .
Velazquez was the first real impressionist as he paints what he sees not as michael Angelo who paints as one would feel something.

So there you are, my hero !!!

I appreciate all the great masters but it's important to recognise the talent of Rolf Harris -he is not just a great entertainer and a superb artist (loved Rolf on Art series when he painted in the style of the Masters) but he's also a genuinely caring person. Rare today.

As an artist myself, I'm inspired by the following: Barbara Rae, Peter Lanyon, Sandra Blow, any of the Newlyn and St Ives Group. Love Rothko and find great inner peace in his 'room' at Tate Modern.

Freda Khalo and Georgia O'Keeffe Two female painters, very feminist based . Freda paints about her life, using animals and childbirth and is Madonnas favourite artist. Georgia O' Keef paints flowers, but on second viewing you realise they are female genitalia. Fabulous
