I have my new computer and its has vista pre installed on it , i didnt get a recovery disk ( it has a special partition for recovery).
Overall Vista is ok but i want XP back to do certain things. My question is if i partition vista and install XP will it work is it hard ( ive installed dual boot Linux before).
In doing that will xp have all the driver for the pc ( ie gphx card sound mic web cam and stuff, or is that a manual job).
Lastly is it worth doing or am i just making work for myself?

Thanks:

Its easier to simply run whatever it is you think you need XP for in compatibility mode from within Vista.....but if you really want to have both XP and Vista on the same pc, it would be simpler to install a second hard drive, and install XP on it, then you wouldn't have to repartition the exisiting hard rive or do any complicated dual boot stuff, you would simply hit the key for the bbs menu while the pc is booting up and select the hard drive that has the operating system you want to boot into.....if Vista came pre-installed and there is a recovery partition on the exisiting hard drive....and you did not recieve a disc, and you don't want to or don't have the capacity for a second hard drive....you're going to need a couple of programs and possibly order a reovery disc from the manufacturer or create one from the utility built in to the recovery partition before you can even start the process of creating a dual boot system. As far as the driver files....some of them will transfer back and forth, but most will need to be installed seperately and since both operating systems use the same folders you may have conflicts there, so I believe the first option of adding a second hard drive is going to work better for you.....but of course, going back to the original idea, compatibility mode is already there and doesn't require any special configurations and does work.

it might not work as most dual boot os are not downward dual bootable.

that is you must install winxp 1st, then install win vista - if i am not wrong.

and the drivers used in vista may not work in winxp.

the best is to get another computer and install winxp in the other computer.
