My friend, who is a Jehovah's Witness said that 144,000 people are going to heaven. Not sure how many JW's that mean.

The Bible says 144,000. Revelation 7;4 and 14;1. And since the Good News was taken to the Gentiles as well as the Jews [ Cornelius Acts ch. 10] this select number will be atken from the world's population and not exclusively the Jewish nation.
these 144,000 have been gathered since Jesus' time. All those faithful ones that went before, Abraham, Moses and the prophets, will get a resurrection. [ Rev. 20; 12,13]
The 144,000 was begun with the 120 in the upper room that were 'anointed with holy Spirit' and had flames on their head mark them.
(Acts 2:1-4) Now while the day of the [festival of] Pentecost was in progress they were all together at the same place, 2Â and suddenly there occurred from heaven a noise just like that of a rushing stiff breeze, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting. 3Â And tongues as if of fire became visible to them and were distributed about, and one sat upon each one of them, 4Â and they all became filled with holy spirit and started to speak with different tongues, just as the spirit was granting them to make utterance.

Why is it so hard for people to comprehend that we don't WANT to go to heaven? We were created to live on the earth and the earth was given to humans as a gift by God. He made it perfect for us. That is not the situation we find ourselves in today, but it will be restored to that in God's due time.
I want to live here where I was designed to live. I want to eat great food and play with animals and read books and learn to play musical instruments and grow gardens and climb mountains and sail on the ocean and feel the sand between my toes and smell gardenias and live up to my full human potential.
Think about it. If someone asks you to describe heaven, what do you think of? What will you do? Are you going to float on clouds and play a harp? Or do you instead think of all the things I just described? All those things are earthly. We were designed to live on earth. And there is no limit to the number of people who will be part of the paradise earth that is still to come.
But yes, the Bible does talk about a small number of people who will go to heaven to be kings and priests. They will serve as a part of a government over paradise earth. A government is always a smaller number of people than the number of people they rule over. But the point is that the few people who are going to heaven will do so for a very specific purpose.
Do not confuse "heaven" with "salvation."

144,000 of individuals from the last 2000 years.
Everyone else has a chance for everlasting (not immortal) life on Earth and the other planets in the Universe.
Since modern JWs have only been around for a little over 100 years, perhaps not that many, as there are many first century Christians, as well as those who tried to keep the true faith over the centuries, who were also born again.

Jehovah's Witnesses only preach what the Bible teaches.
Rev.14:1-3 tells us:"I saw, and, look!the Lamb(Christ Jesus) standing upon the Mount Zion (in heaven);and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand having his name and the name of his Father written on their foreheads.....And they are singingas if a new song....and no one was able to master that song but the hundred and forty four thousand, who have been bought from the earth."
The ingathering of these 'holy ones' began in Pentecost 33CE in the upper room where 120 faithful disciples of Christ were anointed with Holy Spirit.
They are ALL worshipers of Jehovah God.
Jesus referred to these ones in Luke 12:32 when he said:"Have no fear, little flock because your Father has approved of giving you the kingdom."
The Bible does not teach that ALL good people go to heaven.
A limited number(144000)go to heaven,to rule as kings and priests with Christ over the earth.
The rest of obedient mankind referred to in the scriptures as "other sheep" and "great crowd" will have the opportunity to reside on the earth for all eternity.
(Rev.7:9;John10:16;Ps.37:9-11,29;
Pr.2:21;Mat.5:5)

* They told me in 1975 that only 144,000 will go to heaven and that number has already been reached, but those who live according to God's will , will have a new body and live on a new earth with no sickness, soory or death forever and no threat of death.I was told each will recieve 20 acres or more of land whatever Jesus thinks we deserve and live among the beasts and life will be like it was in the garden of eden.*

Rev 6:10-11 states “. 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying: “Until when, Sovereign Lord holy and true, are you refraining from judging and avenging our blood upon those who dwell on the earth?” 11 And a white robe was given to each of them; and they were told to rest a little while longer, until the number was filled also of their fellow SLAVES and their brothers who were about to be killed as they also had been.”
These SLAVES of God, where later sealed in their foreheads in Rev 7:3 “3 saying: “Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until after we have sealed the SLAVES of our God in their foreheads.””
Rev 7:4 states that these slaves of God number 144,000.
That 144,000, who are SEALED, is being CONTRASTED to a huge number, that no man was able to number, means that 144,000 is a small number and literal. Rev 7:9
2 Cor 5:10 talks about the people who will be judged.
10 For we must all be made manifest before the judgment seat of the Christ, that each one may get his award for the things done through the body, according to the things he has practiced, whether it is good or vile.
The 144.000 will be kings with Jesus and part of the FIRST resurrection and are given favor in the judgment itself.
Rev 5:10 states “ and you made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God, and they are to rule as kings over the earth.”
Dan 7:22 states “22 until the Ancient of Days came and judgment itself was given in favor of the holy ones of the Supreme One, and the definite time arrived that the holy ones took possession of the kingdom itself.”
Rev 20:5 states “This is the first resurrection. 6 Happy and holy is anyone having part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no authority, but they will be priests of God and of the Christ, and will rule as kings with him for the thousand years.”
The 144, 000 doesn’t have to be a literal Jew, it can have literal Jews, but not all.
He is not a Jew that is one on the outside, nor is circumcision that which is on the outside upon the flesh. But he is a Jew that is one on the inside, and his circumcision is that of the heart by spirit, and not by a written code.” (Rom. 2:12-29, NW)

No one according to them ,they are not Guaranteed a place either because they are still on earth ,they may change the way they live OR think so how can they judge the situation, they cannot seriously believe the words spoken by others claiming this to be the case, no one knows for sure .Judgment Day is at the end of ones natural existence.
