When God destroyed Sodom and Gomarrah, the people who were fleeing were told not to look behind them and one woman did and God turned her into salt.

Some people will say this never happened, but I believe that everything in the Bible is true. I'm not doubting that this didn't happen. I know it did, but it seems kind of a harsh punishment for looking behind you.

I know it was a sin to disobey, but this story seems harsh. What are your thoughts on this?

Sure and Lot who was saved for being "righteous" offered to leave a crowd rape is two virgin daughters right before this. Let's see....let a mob rape you daughters you are saved, you are curious and try to examine the situation you are in you are turned to salt.

People honestly wonder why I call this god a tyrant and say the Bible is a horrible faerie tale? I really don't know why you would follow this god if it were true.

You want God to walk with you hand-in-hand, have faith/trust in him and be obedient to him then everything (love, pleasing him etc) will follow.
Sodom and Gomorrah was a very wicked town and full of every kind of immorality. This story is somehow a parable, so let me explain it. Lot and his family were spared, they got God's grace. The Bible says when you are born again you are not of the world but God's, if you understand that. You've become a new creature (sinless creature) when you're born again, behold old things have passed, new things...
This story reminds me of the ends times. Lot and his family including his wife have been given so much time, so many chances to repent of their sins but only the wife didn't fully repent. She loved the world so much, e.g the dishonesty, sexual immorality, etc and God told her do not look back (do not backslide, do not regret, love only me (God), trust me) but she didn't, she looked back thinking that maybe she could enjoy it one last time, she looked back to see what she left behind, unfortunately she disobeyed God and she was turned into a pillar of salt.

It's going to be the same in the end of days. God has given us so many chances and forgiven us of our sins. All that He asks is that we trust in Him and love him but we keep on saying "tomorrow", or I'm not ready, or they simply think trusting God is a waste of time or that God doesn't exist. The time will come when all those people that don't have time for God will be thrown into hell (that's why the Bible says, "every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord) and God just won't care because he has told us so many times that we should repent and we should obey him.

Many people think hell is harsh, but don't you also think it's harsh that God asks us the simplest thing and we just don't do it? He just asks us to love him and we turn away from him. I think that's more harsh to me.

People read your Bible, you may not believe that hell exists, or that hell is eternity or that God is love so He will not do it, you are wrong. Hell does exist, it is for eternity and God will cast you there if you do not repent of your sins. God bless you all.

Lot's wife disobeyed the Lord and for her disobedience she was punished by God and the only people that was allowed to escape was Lot (Abraham's brother) and Lot's family, the rest of the people that was in Sodom & Gomarrah could not flee because they were strickened with blindness by God.

God told them to not look back because He wanted them to forget about the evil and feel no sorrow for the cities. I was just recently asked if I feel that hell is a little harsh for those who are going. My response was God gave us the choice and told us what would happen so it's in our best interest to listen. It's not my choice to believe it to be harsh.

when god said don't look back a the evil world being destroy that he would turn all those whom didn't believe that he could do anything even turn those that listen turn them into salt. obviously she didn't believe him was turn to by the time she realize he wasn't playing around it was to late.her family, and friends around her had to tell what they witnessed as he destroyed the city of Sodom and gormarrah.my thoughts are god gives free will one life to follow him and if only look back back to what your going to miss not what you could have with him you don't deserve to live without him!

She disobeyed God. It's not harsh, she just should've listened. For a lack of a better phrase, curiosity killed the cat

Perhaps it wasn't just "looking" back, as in to turn around to see what was happening.

I've heard it explained this way. Looking back, Lot's wife was longing for the life she had in the city - as part of the lifestyle there.

God destroyed her in the same way He destroyed the city.

Sound's harsh, but she identified herself with the cities - and for this was destroyed with them

The reason that she looked back was for what she was leaving behind, her heart was not pure,it was the same as the ones that
got destroyed.
