Be aware of the symptoms and call your doctor if you get any. I don't see why you would need to keep the peanut butter - this thing is wide spread so you either have salmonella infection or you don't. I'd toss the PB to keep others from eating it.
The onset of symptoms usually occurs within 6 hours to three days after eating contaminated food.
Diarrhea
Fever
Abdominal cramps
Headache
Nausea
Loss of appetite
Vomiting
Fortunately, most salmonella infections resolve on their own within five to seven days. Antibiotics are occasionally needed for severe infections.
The largest number of salmonella cases from the peanut butter were reported in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Tennessee and Missouri.
ConAgra said it is not clear how many jars are affected by the recall. But the plant is the sole producer of the nationally distributed Peter Pan brand, and the recall covers all peanut butter _ smooth and chunky alike _ produced by the plant from May 2006 until now.
"We're talking a lot of jars of peanut butter," said Dr. David Acheson, chief medical officer of the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.
Other states reporting cases are Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and West Virginia

Hansel chong is an idiot. No one said they were sick- "go to the doctor", people think they are so frikken smart when they say that.
So is matowakan- you think you are going to walk into a doctor's office perfectly healthy with peanut butter? They'll laugh you right out of there, but first they will give you a bill.
It doesn't sound like you got sick, and you have now been warned, so there is no reason to keep it for legal reasons. Throw it out so you or someone else doesn't accidentally eat it.
When they put out those warnings, a lot of the product that is included in the warning is not actually dangerous- they are just casting a wide net. It was probably a much smaller batch that was damaged.

Watch yourself for any symptoms. Just take it easy and THROW THE PEANUT BUTTER AWAY!!! Take the lid back to the store where you purchased the peanut butter. If you should start getting flu-like symptoms (diarrhea, fever, chills), contact your doctor immediately. You're not going to die if you eat this...but there is the possiblity that you could get sick.

Just because you ate that can # does not mean you will get sick...i know 4 people who ate the whole can and nothing happend...I suggest if you are not sick, don't worry...If you get sick go to the doctor...and the news said to return the lid to the grocery store...but that is just for refund purposes..If you don't get sick toss the top and the container.

keep the top.. i also bought the stuff, although i was fortunate to not have eaten it before i heard about this story..
keep the top for two reasons.. one, they are going to give a refund to anyone who has purchased it ($2, big deal, i know).. but also because if you suffer from salmonella and need medical attention, this top is going to be the only way you may get compensation

Keep everything and consult a reliable doctor immediately. Your health is more important than anything else. Keep all evidence intact in case your legal advicer needs it for proof.
