First one has to understand what you mean by IQ or in an extended form Intelligence Quotient. It is nothing but your ability to properly understand, grasp and analyse a subject. It also implies that you must also have that much imagination, knowledge, fore and hindsight for a quickfire, accurate solution. Intelligence really differs for Individuals but one can always make up for such shortfall through Perspiration i.e. study, motivation, tutions etc thru different media like Books , internet and interaction with other persons. It is to be clearly understood that proper filters should be in place for absorbing what is required as Human Brain also has its own GB Capacity. If one can do that effectively with proper control of resorting to at the earliest opportunity to Recall Memory you have increased your IQ

A careful choice of parents would work, but you may not be able to do that.

There are some simple remedies

Get more physical exercise. It increases blood flow throughout the body, provides more oxygen and nutrients to the brain, and having a healthy body helps to reduce things in the blood stream that you do not need.

Improve your diet. Ask your doctor about that. There are various foods and eating habits that can help rid your body of accumulated junk and improve your health.

Weak muscles become stronger muscles as a result of exercise and strain, and they work better. That also works for the brain. Use it more.

Start doing on-line tests/puzzles, such as SAT tests, and pay attention to how they reach and score the results.

Try a wide variety of puzzles, but seek some that require lateral thinking, which means you may have to look at the puzzle from several angles to get the answer, (possibly unusual angles that you would not otherwise consider) and you have to stretch your mental muscles a bit to do this.

A classic example of this is a man who lived on the 15th floor of an apartment building. Every day he took the elevator down to the street, got on a bus, and went to work. On returning home, however, he would only get on the elevator if someone was already in it, otherwise he walked up the stairs to reach his apartment.

Why?

The answer requires out-of-the-box thinking: he could reach the Lobby button on the elevator, but he was too short to reach the button for the 15th floor, so if no one else was there to push it for him he had to walk up the stairs.

Learning to approach problems from different angles than you have been doing will encourage development of your brain, and open new paths for your thoughts.

Another approach is to associate with smart people.

When you do that, spend much more time listening, not talking.
You will be amazed how much difference this can make. It can lead you to deeper and broader thinking on your own as you may have to work at keeping up with details of the topics being discussed, and if you find the the subjects sufficiently interesting, you may want to do some research on them. This will increase your knowledge base which may, in turn, permit new thought associations with your existing knowledge, and these can make you a smarter person overall.

Read as many books as you can and write as much as you can. This continuous eye, hand and brain contact improves brain function tremendously. Hence the IQ.
