I'd like to take photographs of my boyfriend and visa versa for our apartment. I'd be open to personal pictures, but tasteful. I have a digital camera and can use photoshop, Just stuck for imaginative ideas. Can you help? : )

With a digital camera you can do stuff in black and white. Shoot in colour and then develop in B&W. Do extreme closeups on things like hands...your hands clasped together, maybe turn your head to the side, and drop and extend your chin (to alleviate the dreaded double chin) then have him photograph your lips and shoulder. Posing in a window is a great idea and the shadow on you can put you into a beautiful silhouette. Play with different things, experiment and have fun. Some candids are really great, but some candids end up looking strange. Try different angles and don't be afraid of the shots. If it doesn't work, don't get discouraged...move things around a little...subject/camera/whatever. Good luck! Photography is supposed to be fun!

Window shots are always nice. Especially when the sun's rays are filtering through. I took some nice shots of a friend's kids in front of their gauzy curtains. Just remember that backlighting (strong light source behind the subject) can throw the camera off and give you and your beau dark faces --so you may want to use fill flash or underexpose the photo( if you have that option on your camera) a stop or two. You can avoid this too by positioning the person toward the light. Happy picture taking!

Personally I feel if you want to capture the "real person" the only way to go is candid shots, those are often more meaningful too. If I were you, I would just carry my camera around with me, and whenever I saw my bf doing something cute, memorable, etc. I would snap a photo. Like for example, if he likes working on cars, grab your camera the next time he is out working on his car, and get some pictures. And have him do the same for you.

If you want posed shots, go to places that are meaningful for you. Like if you like going to the beach, take him and your camera down to the beach. If you like hiking, go on a hike and take your camera.

Basically in my opinion the best pictures are those that show the true person. You can still get that from a posed shot, I just prefer candid. Just use your imagination. And remember, all that matters is that YOU like the pictures, and they bring YOU joy.

A good scenic background will take some attention away from the subject. Make it look like it was taken candidly, posers look stupid with fake cheesy smile. Never look at the camera. Make it look like you are interested in something else.
