OR atleast raising suspicions of the validity of creationism and organized religions (judiasm, christianity and islam)! what are the best arguments/evidence/logic available to achieve this?
eg. that the bible states that "man" had only existed for something like 6,000 years. or the splitting of the moon by the wish of the prophet in islam. sometimes it best to argue with them by debunking (logically) these myths and fairytales.

thanks guys.

i never try to convert anyone. mutual respect is important for me. however, you cant avoid discussions with friends and family regarding this issue. i dont have a problem with religious people. i adore buddhism, sufism...even some aspects of naturalism. am not an atheist, and i dont categorise myself in any way. all am asking is for well proven evidence. something i can use in such situations. i mean, if you cant discuss such matters (in a respectful manner), what on earth can you talk about!!! other than politics! humans have always be curious about our existance and WE have always discussed it. how did christians become chirstians? and did muslims became muslims? through talking and discussing issues, right? mutual respect set us a part from the ignorant. and ignorance is what really gets me off. i believe in spirituality and mysticisim and their benificial effects on us. so please dont get me wrong...am not a radical atheist! am just a curious human being who like to talk aboutstuf

I don't really try converting anyway away from religion. For all I know, their religion is the only thing preventing them from being serial rapists and stuff...cuz they fear going to hell.

I will have discussions over religion and all that...there are so many arguments. The vast size of the universe in comparison to Earth. The fact that no matter which religion you are...the vast majority of people in the history of mankind never heard of it (why would god make a religion that most of his creations end up in eternal anguish?)

I guess...stuff like that. I could go on and on.

You really can't change peoples minds about religion. Any religion is a belief within. It can't be logical. I am a christian I know my religion is not the only way but it is my way. The bible is an incomplete book. Different books where chosen for the time that would suite the people. Some might be fables where lessons can be learned. Some might be true. I was not there. I just know the what I feel.

You know there is nothing worse than someone ramming their beliefs down your throat. Leave the believers alone let them believe . You don't have to believe what they do so why should they believe what you do. Just because there is so much death involved with religion does not mean that all religious people are bad people I am not a believer either but I could care less about what you or anyone else believes so long as your beliefs are not running my life.

Atheists are basically people who need evidence to believe in something. Theists are people with a psychological makeup that accepts the supernatural despite a lack of evidence. So you can't use evidence (or logic) to sway a theist. Best not to waste your time trying. If its intelligent conversation that you want, simply find others who believe as you do.

man u pissed a lot of people with this one, but i think that is because us said "converting." i too agree with the others who answered, you should not try to convert anyone, but when people begin to discuss their faith, it is only fair that you have have the ammunition to discuss your beliefs. i have been in many of these debates with people. in respect to christianity, the obvious deviation of some principle laws of physics and chemist (water into wine=> cannot create or destroy matter, and walking on water=> simple density) are enough to stir up some doubt. you could also refer to the experiments done by Stanley miller in 1953 at the university of Chicago, also known as the miller-urey experiment. in short he took the same components of early earth (methane, hydrogen, ammonia, and water) put them in a airtight container and put an electrical current through it, this was to simulate lightning. given time the original compounds combined to form amino acids, sugars, and some components of nucleic acid. this will not prove or disprove creation but will definitely raise some questions/ doubt.

i know a lot of believers will start yelling at you in their answers but im just going to say this

most believers are very strong in their faith. if ur trying to convert a loved one, dont bother. I myself, am a believer, and when u said myths and fairytales, i felt insulted. Just let your friend believe in their faith, if they are trying to push you into their religion, nicely and calmly tell them how this makes you feel. Im pretty sure you are a strong athiest, just like your friend is strong in their other religion. In their religion they believe what they are doing will get them eternal life in heaven, so let them be happy and later find out if they are right or not =]

hope you like my advice
take care

Why bother? Let people believe what they are comfortable believing....why take someone's spirituality away from them? It's like messing with thier world, and it's wrong. I would hate to be the a&&hole that does that when the Karma boot comes around.

Why are people so concerned with converting people to their beliefs? Cant we just let people believe what they want. Its not anyones business what other people choose to believe. Its really sad people have to butt into other peoples lives and try and change the way the live.
