What prayers can I say to help me get over this? It's the anniversary of my friend's death. She committed suicide 6 years ago at the age of 14. It was over something stupid, too. She was Native American and when she did that, people from her tribe came and did a sort of cleansing ritual (more info on that, too please). I did not see her do it, but I remember her being pulled down and the paddles being used. She was whiter than me, and I'm almost albino. I feel kind of sad about it, and try to sort of think of her in memory as well as say duas, even though I know what God says about this. I just would like some extra prayers to say about it. Thank you in advance :)

You mean he recites Al Fatiha? I've heard that before and did that. I learned about that when my son at three weeks was hospitalized for a week. I said that so much that language started to sound like gibberish to me.

She was at a very young age. May her soul rest in peace.
I'm a shiat, so I don't think my opinion would count to the majority of Muslims but I'm gonna tell you the things we say for the souls of who have died (both at their funerals, grave visits, or death anniversaries)
We usually read parts of the Mafatih Al-Jenan at their funerals and while visiting their graves. I've seen my mom read Joshan Kabir and Joshan Saghir from Mafatih Al-Jenan when my grandmother passed away and whenever we visit her grave. They say Joshan Kabir and Joshan Saghir cleans the souls from sins.
Another thing that we do, at the anniversary of a friend or a relative's death, is to put together Khatm An'am. We basically call friends and family and invite them for a light supper. But before eating supper, they would all gather around and each of them would read parts of the Surah An'am (6) for the soul of the departed.
Another thing that we do is, we would bake Halva and take it to the grave sight along with dates and we would offer it to whoever is there. And anyone who picks something to eat we would ask them to read Fatiha for our departed before they eat it.
All of these (except for the funeral part) are done on a yearly basis after a death of a family member or a friend or a relative.
We've been doing this (the Khatm An'am, reading Mafatih Al-Jenan at grave sight, and distributing halva and dates) every year ever since both my grandmother and grandfather passed away.
The shiats mourn for 40 days after a friend or a relative passes away. They mourn for a year after a close family member (father, mother, brother, sister, husband, wife) passes away.

A man or woman who commits suicide in his or her senses will not go to heaven, according to the Quran. But if the person was mentally retarded or insane or had other mental problems by which she did not know what she was doing, we can hope that the Almighty may forgive her and give her paradise. Whatever it may be, pray for her and ask forgiveness for her in your prayers. Recite whatever you can from the Quran.

Suicide is not really covered in the Bible. The Catholics were the ones that considered suicide as an unforgivable sin because you could not confess if you were dead. God is the one who decides who goes to heaven not men. That there do come times in life when we may see no direction perhaps those that succeed in suicide do go to God because there was no way forward.

This is really sad to read.....
She was young and a whole life was ahead of her....
This is how it is regarded in Islam,,,This life that we were granted is not actually ours in the sense that we end it whenever or however we wish to...It belongs to the creator who granted it to us in the first place, and it is up to him to decide when & how to take it back...
What's happened has readily happened and no body can do anything about it...
The only good thing I read in your short story about your friend is that she was that young...Meaning young enough not to know what she was doing...or what awaits her upon doing that...
This is my own perspective on this issue and it cannot be generalized though...because I know for a fact he who commits suicide will be so doing the same to himself eternally in the life after endlessly...
Now. I have a big faith in God's Mercy on that little girl...
Nobody knows God's Ways over things...we know how suicide is regarded of course, but yet again God's Mercy has included everything....
What I advise you to do is to go for peligrimige for her, but this cannot be accepted from you if you hadn't gone for the same for yourself before.
Therefore, you may need to ask someone who has gone before over there, and is willing to go again for your friend....
Hope this will be accepted by God as a means of forgivness on her soul...
Again, I am telling you this is my own perspective, based on the fact she was too young...
This is really sad.....

when people do die we can not be sad. We are not to mourn on this to much. But we have to accept this is what happened.
The remedy for dejection is hope. God made hopelessness unlawful by saying, "Do not despair of God's mercy." Thus, no matter at what level of despair, depression and frustration we are, whether loss of a loved one or a job, or as the result of anger from someone else, we must not give up hope as there is a ray of hope at the end of the tunnel. The greatest hope is mercy from God.
Thus, whoever has lost worldly possessions, expects and hopes that God will replace his losses in a better way. The.he person who has lost a dear one hopes to see that dear one in the life hereafter. Hope is the medicine which keeps one alive and going, which is when we say, hang on, we mean hang onto the thread of hope. It is not unnatural to be sad over situations and events. Even Prophet Mohammed (Pbuh) used to be sad, looking at the plight of Unbelievers and their rejection of his message for oneness of God, and not becoming Muslims. And God reminded him by saying, "It is not your duty to make them Muslims, but just proclaim the truth, and God gives guidance to those whom He wishes."
During dejection, there is darkness, but in hope, there is light. Therefore, one must pray for this light to illuminate the heart so that we can see beyond what is causing the suffering today. If I knew that I would not see tomorrow, I might get depressed, but the fact that I hope I will see tomorrow with all its goodness, the love of my family, my friends, dear ones, the flowers, the music, that I go to sleep in peace, turning myself to God. We must pray for God's mercy and forgiveness so that we can love and forgive ourselves and God's other creations and have peace with ourselves, our Creator and our surroundings.
We Muslims believe that all our suffering, failures and adversities are nothing but a test from God, who has said that "You will not enter Paradise until you are tested. " He has also said, "Be sure we will test you with something of fear and hunger, a small loss in wealth and lives and the fruits (of your labors), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere, when afflicted with calamities, to God we belong and to Him shall we return."' (Chapter 2:15, 5-157).

hi dear ..
it's nice to think about pray for your friend ..
but you should know that if some one kill him self he will not able to enter the heaven..
but now .. you feel sorry about her and want to help her by praying .. so you couldn't say either what the prophet say to his uncle because he was not a Muslim .. he was pray for Allah by "do3a" to give him less wrath .. and for your bad feeling ,,
I think Allah give you this chance to check your self .. and to think about your relation with Allah ..
dear .. remember always that Allah is so kind , and he's hard wrath
