You are walking on a path and there is a fork on the road. One way leads to death and one way leads to life. There are two houses on each side. The owners of the house are brothers. One of the brothers always tells the truth and the other one always tells a lie.
You can only see one brother and only ask one question. What can you ask to find out which way leads to life?

It doesn't matter which brother you talk to if you ask the following question:
"If I had asked you yesterday if the path to the left was the path to safety, what would your answer have been?"
Let's assume the left path IS the safe one.
If he's the liar, he would have answered "no", but since he would have answered "no" yesterday, he now has to lie about what his answer would have been yesterday, so he would say "yes", which would be the same answer the truthful one would give you.

Ask him "If I asked your brother which path leads to safety, what would he tell me?" then take the other path.
If he's the lying brother he will tell you a lie.
If he's the truthful brother he will tell you the truth (which is his brother's lie).
Either way the answer is a lie.

Do you know me? If he responds yes then he is lying so therefore the other path leads to life if he says no then he's telling the truth.
