Evolution comes fro, adaption, otherwise known as survival of the fittest.

adaptation is here and now (like wearing a jacket when it's cold out) while evolution is over a long period of time (finer hair on human's arms due to lack of necessity for natural warmth)

I think one can exist without the other. I mean, I don't always have to live in a cold climate. I can move. However, evolution occurs over time so they'll never be any way to find out if my decisions affect future generations.

A biological adaptation is an anatomical structure, physiological process or behavioral trait of an organism that has evolved over a period of time by the process of natural selection such that it increases the expected long-term reproductive success of the organism. The term adaptation is also sometimes used as a synonym for natural selection, but most biologists discourage this usage. Organisms that are adapted to their environment are able to:

get air, water, food and nutrients
cope with physical conditions such as temperature, light and heat
defend themselves from their natural enemies
reproduce
respond to changes around them
Adaptations enable living organisms to cope with environmental stresses and pressures.
In biology, evolution is the change from generation to generation in a population's inherited characteristics, or traits. Minor random changes in the genes that encode these traits produces new traits, and variations on old ones, within every generation. While random chance can intervene and cause even the most beneficial trait to be lost, organisms with traits that help them to survive and reproduce tend to have more offspring. In doing so, they will pass more copies of these beneficial traits on to the next generation, leading, on average, to advantageous traits becoming more common in each generation, while disadvantageous traits become rarer.

I'm learning about this in my bio class, if I was listening correctly, they are different but can be directly related. Adaptation is necessary for evolution to occur, but adaptaion occurs in one life span.....where evolution can not be detected until many generations later. But all complex living organisms have a certain ability to adapt. And one aspect of the theory of evolution states tht life=change and change=evolution.

Adaptation is more common. Evolution takes a long time.

adaption is learning how to do something that gives you an advantage in life.. evolution is being born with some feature (which could possibly be passed on to future generations) that gives you an advantage in life.. in that it allows you to pro-create more successfully
