. Your first step might be to see your doctor, contact a support group, or set a date in the near future to stop. While some people can stop drinking on their own, others need medical help to manage the physical process of withdrawal.
If you think you have an addiction to alcohol, talk to your doctor about whether you need to withdraw from alcohol under medical supervision. Your doctor can give you medicine that will help you safely withdraw from alcohol. Other medicines might be prescribed later to help you stay sober. With a doctor's help, withdrawal from alcohol is safer.
Stopping alcohol use can:
Prevent or reduce health problems that are made worse by alcohol use, such as liver damage.
Prevent harm to your unborn baby if you are pregnant.
Reduce related family concerns or relationship problems.
Increase your ability to be productive at work, school, and home.
Reduce legal problems that you might have as a result of misuse of alcohol.

The thing that helped me slow down and pretty much completely stop was not hanging out with the people that constantly tried to drag me to the bar and have house gatherings that were just all about getting drunk. It'll be hard the first few weeks, but you've just got to replace that time with something more productive and think of your future. You're already asking the question, so you do want to take action in this. It was extremely hard, because I thought they were my actual friends, but as soon as I told them for the first time, first few times that I wasn't going out that night, they would not stop calling my cell to get me to come out. It felt harassing and I couldn't believe how much of a bad judge of character I was at that point. Those people's lives were all wrapped around alcohol and based our friendship all on going out and drinking. So good luck on your quest.

Stay out of the bar, and stop drinking, it is all willpower. Avoid situations that you know will make you want a drink. Make friends with people who don't drink, the less you are around it the less tempting it is. And as mentioned before stay busy, sitting around idle tends to make one lean towards temptation.

Have a little food first, and then be sure you only have a little ... you can also mix your drink with some fizzy water and some fruit juice ... that way you have a nice drink but not much alcohol... and be sure you hear yourself saying what you are saying: that you want to stop ...... so, listen to yourself!!!

The first guy had it right. Get Busy. If you're sitting at home, bored, then you're going to reach for the bottle. Get outside...exercise, take up a hobby. Get back in touch with friends. Just keep busy!

you can stop drinking alcohol (not alcahol) by :
*taking tablets of disulfiram (only after consulting a doctor),symptomatic treatment like painkillers for aching, sedatives for sleep,anti-depressents for anxiety and depression.
*do tapering - decrease consumption daily ; coming to one peg of 60 ml in 15 days.
*after this, start drinking on alternate days, weeks, months, years and here you are = a tee-totaller.
*positive thinking towards everything in general and your family and children in particular.
*determination to quit. sky won't fall on earth if you stop drinking alcohol.
*remember that by drinking you are a loser,in every field,be it physical/mental health, money, prestige, reputation, society, family, peace of mind, etc.

Willpower works for alcoholism just as well as willpower works for diarrhea.
Go to a doctor and also Alcoholics Anonymous. They will help you.
