Very difficult question as most of us judge by appearances first, which might not be the best criterion. Some questions to ask yourself: Do we have the same interests? Temperament? Hopes and ambitions? What are our common values and which ones are different and could they be a problem in the future?
If I were to do it over again, though I doubt it, I would also examine the family history. You might think that that is overdoing it BUT mine suffered from a hereditary manic-depressive condition which I did not consider a factor. All four of our children suffer from it. Something to think about...

You'll just know!! You'll feel it in your heart, when he/she is the first person you think about when you wake up and the last person on your mind when you go to bed at night. It's the person you always want to be with and makes you happy with just a smile. Hope you find that special person.
