Because everyone is pretending to be someone else or exaggerating. It is like trying to get to know a cartoon character instead of a person. Even if they start off being honest, they soon learn to lie..

People on line lie. About age, gender, where they live, etc. Be careful with "friends" on line.It is nice to chat and have conversations on line however "friends" need to look each other in the eye and tell the truth before we can really say we are friends.

Because you have to weed out the people who are being honest with you and the ones who aren't. It is far easier to pretend being someone you're not online that it makes it hard to meet genuine good friends.

Once you manage to "unmask" people, you'll find it easier to figure out whether or not you want to be friends with them. One of my best friends is someone I met online so it is possible....difficult, but possible, lol
