Diploma in engg is not a must for doing AMIE.As you have diploma, some papers are avoided from the syllabus.
To go for AMIE,you should register your admission.For that you should buy an application from the authorities and submit with relevant documents.In India the Head office is at Calcutta.
You may study the syllabus given by them and attend contact classes if any.
Remember that AMIE is not equivalent to B Tech by all means.For teaching profession ,AMIE is not valid since AMIE holders does not attend practicals

you can do mechanical engineering degree equivalent course in two ways one AMIE ( associate member of Institution of engineers) and the second is AMMech IE (Associate member institute of mechanical engineers) for the above two courses you can directly attend Section A and you can get some papers exemption also. Contact your nearest study centre of Institution of Engineers or Institution of mechanical engineers for further details
