In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Satan in his uncursed state was a magnificent creature. But pride became his downfall and he rebelled. His rebellion is recorded in Scripture.
Isaiah 14:12-15
12 "How you have fallen from heaven,
O star of the morning, son of the dawn!
You have been cut down to the earth,
You who have weakened the nations!
13 "But you said in your heart,
'I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne above the stars of God,
And I will sit on the mount of assembly
In the recesses of the north.
14 'I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.'
15 "Nevertheless you will be thrust down to Sheol,
To the recesses of the pit."
Notice the several "I will" statements that are the basis of Satan's rebellion. He thought he could be like God and prevail. He wasn't thinking rationally. Satan didn't just leave heaven, he got the boot.

He didn't leave, he got kicked out. It is a long story, but the angels were divided into three groups and each group had an archangel who was the head of their group. There was David, Gabrielle, and Lucifer. Well, Lucifer decided that he wanted to be God, so he and his group of angels decided to fight God and they lost. God kicked them all out of Heaven, and now we have one third of what are called fallen angels or demons hanging around, trying to take souls to hell. Also, hell was created long before man. God created it as a punishment for his angels who sinned against Him. Now satan is going to go to hell with all the fallen angels. They all know their time is running out and that is the reason for the world the way it is today. Here is a great site that will tell you more.

Lucifer and a third of the angels revolted against God's power. Satan was God's favorite angel. He was given extraordinary gifts and power. He was the most perfect angel, physically, too. From his own arrogance, he wanted to become as God. As a consequence for his disobedience he and his armies of angels were thrown out of Heaven.

As is true of all of God's intelligent creatures,this spirit son was endowed with free will.He abused his freedom of choice,allowed feelings of self-importance to develop in his heart,began to crave worship that belonged only to God,and so enticed Adam and Eve to listen to him rather than obey God.Thus by his course of action he made himself Satan,which means "adversary"
Satan the Devil didnt 'leave' heaven,he was thrown out of heaven along with his demons (Rev.12:7-9)

A lot of what it tells you about Satan happens in real life. We may take on a job and if we have a really overpowering boss, yet we know we can do it better, doesnt really make a difference. If we genuinely consider we can do a better than our manager, then no popular consensus is going to change our mind....I think that is what happened with Satan...he got power crazy and thought he could do a better job than God. He would not admit that God was better than him.....he had an ego problem .......he though he was better than he really was. God, knew who the superior being was....so like a person who is secure within themselves, we will allow someone to try and prove himself, knowing he never will because he has a nasty and selfish heart...and I think that is the situation between God and Satan....Satan is forever trying to prove himself, but God knows he is fighting a losing battle...so in essense....God is giving Satan enough rope to hang himself. Satan is fighting a losing battle, but his pride dictates that he needs to keep on trying and he will keep on trying until the day he is totally defeated....We all know the ending to the story, but we choose to believe Satan is as powerful as God....he is not. God is allowing us to have free choice......God is the perfect communist...He is not forcing His values onto us....He is giving us the respect of choosing for ourselves....Satan is just an egotistical bastard who wont admit that the odds are against him...he will, through ego, stand his ground even though he knows it will cause him and everyone arouund him to lose......Loook at Hitler...his ego was bigger than the supposed cause he was fighting....Hitler was an immoral idiot, but even so, he had a lot of followers who belived what he was doing was true and moral. . He came undone...but his pride was so big that he chose to kill himself instead of anwering his critics. Satan has a huge ego...he would prefer to see his death than admit he was wrong.....and just like Hitler, he wont be going down alone...he wants to take anyone and everyone with him...he doesnt care about the soul of a person, he cares about himself and the power he believes he deserves. Its a total egotistical example....but Satan is totally self absorbed...he doesnt care if he stuffs someones life up,....he just cares that he is right.....just like Hitler.

Satan left because he couldn't stand the sound of the harps and the christian choir boys singing about God.
He hated seeing all of God's workers rape little boys and he didn't like the idea of spending eternity in that environment, which is also the reason that he didn't come to earth.

Satan never stayed in Heaven with God. Satan is in Hell waiting for sinners to suffer the same faith with him. That is his purpose in his trying to overpower God with his power, but God is more powerful that he is.

He did not leave willingly because God kicked him and his angels (us) out of Heven because of sin. No sin is allowed in Heaven and that is why we must be cleansed in the blood of the lamb and repent so we might be able to return.
