It sounds like you are overdoing it and bring bile up, slow down and don't worry about dying, we all will some day.

when i exercise i tend to get a film of saliva across the back of my throat and i drink water continuously throughout exercise. The people in the gym must hate it when i come in because i am always clearing my throat. Try breathing in your nose and out your mouth. Inhaling through your mouth will dry up saliva making it thick

Well, yes, we're all going to die, lol.
If you wish that to be later rather than sooner, you need to see a Dr. as to why your body is producing unusual amounts of unusually thick mucus.
Could be as simple as allergies, or as serious as asthma & other, worse possibilities.
Your body is telling you that it needs some professional care & attention, you would be wise to see the Dr. ASAP.
Meantime, try drinking 2 litres water/day, to see if it thins the mucus. Being asthmatic, that works well for me.
Please take the very best care of yourself, I wish you well.

Nothing - look at footballers on TV - always spitting out saliva - it's always thick and goopy (if thats a word) - It's due to dehydration as many have adlready said - drink more water to re hydrate yourself

Think this is normal. I had similar problem except it was the wind pipe closing and found that the answer is to get a water bottle and sip it during exercise.

Buy a value pack of water bottles. Before your work out, drink half a bottle. After your work out, drink the other half.

Yep you're on your way out. Thicksalivaitis. 96% of professional sports people die from it. Say goodbye to your loved ones but don't kiss them or they will catch it too. Good luck in the next world.
