If you want to change the logon screen back to the original Windows XP method, go to Control Panel, then User Accounts. Click "Change the way Users Log On and Off", and then check the box that says, "Use the Welcome screen". Save the changes.

If you want to download new themes, I recommend the UXTheme Patch(1) and Deviantart's Visual Styles section(2)... Download the UXTheme Patcher for Windows XP, then install it. Then restart your computer. Next, go to DeviantArt's page and just surf around and try to find visual styles that appeal to you. Download it, then install the theme to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes. To change to your new theme, right click the desktop, click Properties, click Appearance, and under "Windows and buttons:", click the dropdown box and select the new theme.

Well to your comments, I come to the point that you are messed up with the startup logon screen.

Well to solve follow the steps.

Goto Start>Settings>Control Panel>User Accounts>Change the way Users Log on and off and choose Use the Welcome screen.

If you donot find such then follow these steps.
Goto Start>Settings>Control Panel>User Accounts>User Accounts>Change the way Users Log on and off and choose Use the Welcome screen.

At times the option Use the Welcome screen is choosen but still when the computer boots up going directly to the desktop, Windows comes to halt at user choosing. This is because if you installed SQL SERVER, Visual Studio. This in result makes an SQL_debugger account or ASP.NET account which prevents us to automatically choose user and reach to the desktop. In this situation though you wont find the user name at booting but it does exist in background.

So delete the account which is created by installing additional software.

To do so:
Goto Start>Settings>Control Panel>User Accounts>Choose ASP.net/SQL_debugger account and delete, and choose save files and folders.

Volla! you are done!

I suggest you note the previous correct answers BUT try using your START
then ALL PROGRAMS and open your Windows Tutorial. You'll find this program VERY helpful for the task and many, many others which you'll need in the future. Just check it out, so that you'll be used to referring to it.
